Elton John has new songwriting method due to vision loss<\/p>\n
The Your Song star is blind in his right eye and has limited vision in his left, so has adopted a \u201ccompletely different way\u201d of getting music and lyrics down on paper. <\/p>\n
Speaking to Rolling Stone about Elton\u2019s new music, Bernie said: \u201cWell, he\u2019s got a record coming out, I think, at the beginning of next year that I contributed to. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut I literally don\u2019t know when that is. He did it with\u00a0Andrew Watt\u00a0again. And he wrote it in a completely different way simply because of his eyesight problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bernie went on to explain that Elton \u201ccan\u2019t read lyrics if they\u2019re on the piano\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cSo he basically came up with instrumental tracks and threw basically three or four of them at me and said, \u2018Can you do something with these?\u2019 Which I contributed to. But he\u2019s also worked with a couple of other people on there, which is great. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo it\u2019s a whole different ballgame for him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nElton contracted a serious eye infection in France in 2024, after which he lost the vision in his right eye and the vision in his left was also affected. <\/p>\n
\nHe opened up about the vision loss in a post on Instagram as he wrote: \u201c\u201cI can\u2019t read. I can\u2019t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I\u2019m used to soaking it all up. It\u2019s distressing.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I\u2019m lucky to have the life I have. I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of here,.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou say to yourself, just get on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nElsewhere in the interview, Bernie stated that neither he nor Elton are interested in selling the rights to their music. <\/p>\n
\nHe sighed: \u201cWe don\u2019t need the money. We both have offspring, and why don\u2019t we leave it up to them?\u201d<\/p>\n
\nElton has two children with husband David Furnish, while Bernie shares two daughters with his fourth wife Heather Kidd.<\/p>\n
