Eric Roberts<\/strong><\/a> did not attend his daughter Emma Roberts<\/strong>‘ wedding <\/a>over the weekend, and fans have been curious about their relationship.<\/p>\n

If you did not see the news<\/a>, the 35-year-old Scream Queens <\/em>actress and her new husband, Cody John<\/strong>, celebrated their wedding over the weekend on Saturday (July 25) in Idaho. Emma<\/strong>\u2018s mom is actress Kelly Cunningham<\/strong>, and her aunt, Julia Roberts<\/strong>, was in attendance at the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an appearance, Eric<\/strong> spoke about the perception of his relationship with his daughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only complicated through outside eyes, because they don\u2019t get any of it,\u201d he said three months ago on the Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson<\/em> podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Because they don\u2019t get any of it. So, they have their own take, whatever that is, and it’s not a straight line because they’re not really involved. So it’s just thoughts, possibilities, interests, fantasies, whatever it is. But it’s not a real relationship with the subjects, so how could it be anything but a thought?”<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so proud of my kid. You know, she didn\u2019t start off as a great actor, but she became a great actor. Fabulous\u2026 and I\u2019m so proud of that,” he continued.<\/p>\n

He reflected on his life when Emma<\/strong> was born, saying, \u201cI was emotionally a wash rag. I was not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever, because I was a car wreck….I take full responsibility for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his 2024 memoir “Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far,” Eric<\/strong> opened up about struggling to be a father to his daughter, admitting that he\u2019s \u201cstill not a father figure\u201d to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had abandoned Kelly when Emma was just seven months old,\u201d Eric<\/strong> wrote, via EW<\/a><\/em>. \u201cWe went through a lot, and [Kelly] saw me at my absolute worst \u2014 yet she stayed, for a time, though I\u2019m sure she questioned whether or not she should. We both wanted a child \u2014 maybe I did more than she \u2014 but we both wanted to become parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric <\/strong>then went on to recall his excitement about becoming a father, writing, \u201cThe pregnancy was very exciting. I fell madly in love with Emma the first minute I saw her. We\u2019d even tried to bring on labor so it could happen exactly on the due date. It was a natural birth. I sang \u2018Happy Birthday\u2019 to her belly a lot. When Emma finally made her appearance, she wasn\u2019t quite quiet and mellow, but when I started singing \u2018Happy Birthday\u2019 to her, she must have recognized my voice because she calmed right down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his enthusiasm about being a father, Eric<\/strong> believed that he wasn\u2019t suited for parenthood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved my little daughter with the strength of Hercules, despite my own weaknesses,\u201d Eric<\/strong> wrote. \u201cHowever, I couldn\u2019t handle the realities of an infant coming into my life, and I couldn\u2019t handle being a parent! I\u2019m still not a father figure. Emma, on the other hand, certainly knows what that role is \u2014 now grown up and a mom herself. She\u2019s that person to her first child, Rhodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then attributed his parenting struggles to his drug addiction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest consequence of my drug use was losing Emma,\u201d Eric<\/strong> wrote. \u201cI was still impossibly coked up when she was born, which explains everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
