Netflix introduced a new generation of fans to Little House on the Prairie <\/i><\/a>with the recent release of the streaming service\u2019s highly anticipated reboot \u2014 but there are some core differences between the show and the beloved original series.<\/p>\n \u201cWith this version, our showrunner and creator, Rebecca Sonnenshine<\/b>, she\u2019s really gone back to Laura Ingalls Wilder<\/b>\u2018s books as the source material,\u201d Luke Bracey<\/b>, who stars as patriarch\u00a0 \u201cPa\u201d Charles Ingalls in the new version, began on the Friday, July 24, episode<\/span><\/a> of Live With Kelly and Mark<\/i>. \u201cAll the stories come from there and she says that she wanted to have the show make you feel what you felt when you read the books as a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n Both versions of Little House <\/i>were adapted from Ingalls Wilder\u2019s iconic, semi-autobiographical books of the same name, chronicling a pioneer family\u2019s move from Wisconsin to Kansas.<\/p>\n \u201cHopefully, we fit as much [from\u00a0 the books] as we can into the scripts,\u201d Bracey, 37, said on Friday. \u201cThat\u2019s probably the main delineation from the original show, but the fact that it\u2019s a family trying to be good people is still the core of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Bracey plays Charles opposite Crosby Fitzgerald<\/b>\u2019s Caroline Ingalls, who are the parents of Mary (Skywalker Hughes<\/b>) and Laura (Alice Halsey<\/b>).<\/p>\n The original series, meanwhile, aired<\/span><\/a> from 1974 to 1983, starring Michael Landon <\/b>and Karen Grassle <\/b>as the Ingalls parents. Their kids were played by then-child stars Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson <\/b>and twins Lindsay <\/b>and Sydney Greenbush<\/b>.<\/p>\n For Australia native Bracey, he admittedly had \u201cno concept\u201d of Little House <\/i>before landing the role.<\/p>\n You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n \u201cI got an email about the audition and I saw the title and, maybe I\u2019d heard the title before, but I had no concept of the story or the show or the books or anything like that,\u201d the actor told hosts Kelly Ripa <\/b>and Mark Consuelos <\/b>on their daytime TV show. \u201cI read the script and it\u2019s a really great script. It\u2019s kind of hard to deny [that]. I thought, \u2018Wow, it\u2019s so rare these days to have a show of such high quality that\u2019s nice.\u2019 It\u2019s about nice people trying their hardest in life and facing obstacles and getting up and overcoming them and trying to be good people while doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n Bracey added, \u201cI just thought that was such a special thing and quite rare these days<\/a> in shows. A lot of shows are really dark and I love the idea of portraying a good man or a man trying to be a good man. [He\u2019s] not perfect, far from perfect, but [Charles is] really wanting to be a good father and a good husband and a good member of his community.\u201d<\/p>\n Little House on the Prairie <\/i>is currently streaming on Netflix.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
