Orville Peck<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about the crisis that led him to cancel his Bronco Tour<\/a><\/em> in 2023.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old singer revealed that he attempted suicide shortly before announcing he needed to step away to protect his mental health.<\/p>\n

“I was a bad addict, a coping alcoholic,” Orville<\/strong> told Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> in a new interview. “And I had this spiral moment, where I went back to my hotel and tried to take my life.”<\/p>\n

“It was a big turning point for me, with a lot of realizations to come. It was something that needed to happen,” he continued.<\/p>\n

How the experience shaped his new album<\/h3>\n

The musician said he was in “one of the worst places” of his life during a year that included a breakup and rehab. Those experiences form the story behind his fourth album, Mule<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“This record is a chronological account of the year I lost my way,” he wrote while announcing the project on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Orville<\/strong> turned his resistant to treatment into the album track “Rehab Blues.”<\/p>\n

“What I was really trying to capture in terms of the concept, there was no way to gloss over or sugarcoat it,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Mule<\/em> arrives September 18. It’s first single, “Too Little, Too Late,” is available now.<\/p>\n
