The 95-year-old actor – who was diagnosed with metastatic malignant melanoma, a stage four cancer, in 2023 but given the all clear in 2024 – believes he has a “vibration” and tries to lead his life by always being aware of the “magic” of everything around him.<\/p>\n
He told People magazine: \u201c\u2018They said, \u2018You got cancer. If you came in later, you would have been dead.\u2019 Yeah, see? That\u2019s my life<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I have a vibration, which is what the universe apparently is \u2014 all vibration. This is nothing.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“Even at this point, I don\u2019t believe I\u2019m going to die. I teach myself to be aware of my feeling of what I\u2019m seeing, what my senses are doing. I\u2019m driving a car and I\u2019m smiling about it, or I see a hummingbird in the house and I\u2019m conscious of the way his wings are going. And I\u2019m thinking of my dog and my children… I\u2019m aware of the magic of it all.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe Star Trek legend has encouraged fans to share his outlook on life, though he knows circumstance doesn’t always make it easy to be optimistic.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cIt\u2019s easy for us to say in this lovely home with lots of food and rest and education to say, \u2018Make your life meaningful.\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n“It\u2019s much more difficult to be poverty-stricken and struggling for every dollar and to wonder how you\u2019re going to get through it.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI understand that. I\u2019ve been there. But it\u2019s also possible to endure that and be aware of the beauty around you, and the beauty of consciousness that allows you to appreciate a leaf or the universe or a relationship. That\u2019s what\u2019s critically important. No time but now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWilliam and his daughter, Melanie Shatner Gretsch – who battled a different form of stage four cancer at the same time as her dad – are launching a new podcast, No Time but Now, and admitted recording the series was a “glorious experience” for themselves and their interviewees.<\/p>\n
\nWilliam said: \u201cWe\u2019re doing this podcast in which we talk about making life count now, and we\u2019re interviewing people of all ilks. In hearing these people talk about the diet and the good food and the way of living, suddenly there\u2019s a joy in this communication.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe people we talk to on more than one occasion, they say, \u2018Can we have dinner?\u2019 It\u2019s a glorious experience just in itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
