Melissa starred as Laura Ingalls Wilder in the original NBC series, based on Laura\u2019s autobiographical frontier saga novels, from 1974 to 1983. <\/p>\n
However, now the show has been rebooted for a new franchise on Netflix, it has attracted some criticism about \u201chistorical accuracy\u201d, with Melissa responding in a post on the Substack publishing platform. <\/p>\n
Beginning by telling her fans she\u2019s unsure if she can be \u201cfully objective because I am too deeply involved to weigh in without emotion\u201d, Melissa then admitted she\u2019s still uncertain whether it\u2019s her \u201cplace\u201d to offer her views. <\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
However, she did then continue to share her thoughts on whether either the original series, or the Netflix reboot, were \u201chistorically accurate\u201d, adding: \u201cThe short answer is no, neither are entirely accurate to the times nor the books.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe continued: \u201cMy hope is that folks realise that these are all perfect examples of dramatic license. Even the real Laura took dramatic license in writing her books. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cFor example, in the book,\u00a0Little House on the Prairie, all three Ingalls girls are older than they were in real life.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo rather than getting all twisted up in what\u2019s real and what\u2019s dramatised, maybe just sit back and go for the ride the creative minds behind these shows want to take you on. If you like it, stick with it. If you don\u2019t, you don\u2019t have to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMelissa\u2019s post comes after her co-star Dean Butler, who joined the original series in season 6 as Almanzo Wilder, spoke about the reboot, admitting there\u2019s one aspect he is particularly enjoying.<\/p>\n
\nIn a video on Instagram, he said: \u201cSomething that I love about the program that I think would have been really fun in the original \u2014 which we did not do … is the family singing. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cWriters have rolled in songs that Pa played on his fiddle, and the family is singing along, and they\u2019re doing it beautifully.\u201d<\/p>\n
