Candace Cameron Bure<\/strong> <\/a>denied claims that she tried to have Miss Benny<\/strong> \u2014 who portrayed a queer character on Fuller House<\/em> \u2014 written out of the Netflix sitcom.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI never asked Miss Benny\u2019s character to be removed from\u00a0Fuller House<\/em>\u00a0and did not ask the writers, producers or studio executives to not have queer characters on the show,\u201d Cameron Bure, 47, told TVLine<\/em><\/a> in a statement on Thursday, July 6. \u201cFuller House<\/em>\u00a0has always welcomed a wide range of characters. I thought Miss Benny did a great job as \u2018Casey\u2019 on the show.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t share any scenes together, so we didn\u2019t get a chance to talk much while filming on set. I wish Miss Benny only the best.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Bure\u2019s rebuttal comes hours after Miss Benny, 24, posted a video via TikTok<\/a> claiming that the actress attempted to get them ousted from the show due to their character, Casey, being gay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOne of the Tanner sisters is very publicly not for the girls<\/a>,\u201d Miss Benny shared in the Thursday clip. \u201cI remember I got sat down by the writers and the studio to basically warn me how this person allegedly was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Bure starred on all five seasons of Fuller House<\/em> <\/a>as DJ Tanner \u2014 a reprisal of her role from the \u201990s hit Full House<\/em><\/a>. Miss Benny, for their part, appeared as Casey for two separate season 4 episodes, most notably as the platonic date of Soni Bringas<\/strong>, who portrayed Ramona Gibler on the series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Miss Benny never mentioned Cameron Bure by name, they did hashtag the actress and noted that \u201cthis person\u2019s fanbase might be encouraged to target me, specifically,\u201d adding, \u201cThe fact that this teenage actor who\u2019s coming in to make jokes about wearing a scarf is suddenly a target from an adult is crazy to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTo this day, despite working on the show every day for two weeks straight, I have only had a conversation with one of the Tanner sisters,\u201d they continued.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Miss Benny concluded their video by sharing the positives from their experience on Fuller House<\/em>, including \u201cshooting the show with all the other actors who were willing to talk to me\u201d and the role ultimately leading to them being cast on Netflix\u2019s Glamourous<\/em>, which premiered last month.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSo, everything happens for a reason,\u201d they said. \u201c[But it] continuously blows my mind how queer people, specifically queer young adults and queer children, are being targeted and having to advocate for themselves against adults.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Cameron Bure previously made headlines in November 2022<\/a> when she revealed her motive for exiting Hallmark in favor of Great American Media. \u201cMy heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,\u201d she told\u00a0The Wall Street Journal\u2019s WSJ.
