Al Roker<\/strong><\/a> broke his silence after an intruder was arrested<\/a> for lunging at Craig Melvin<\/strong><\/a> on the Today<\/em><\/a> show set.<\/p>\n \u201cA really heartfelt thank you to all who reached out over the last 24 hours to check in on my brother, @craigmelvinnbc,\u201d Roker, 71, wrote via Instagram on Friday, July 17. \u201cWe are both OK.\u201d<\/p>\n The meteorologist thanked Today viewers for their outpouring of support.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s moments like these that serve to pull us together,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou all, like Craig, said \u2018You come after one of us, you come after all of us.\u2019 We\u2019ll talk about it this morning on @todayshow.\u201d<\/p>\n News broke on Thursday, July 16, that a man \u2014 now identified as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove<\/strong> \u2014 was apprehended after he snuck into the morning show\u2019s studio in New York City. Truelove allegedly looked for Roker at first<\/a> before lunging toward Melvin, 47, and yelling a racial slur.<\/p>\n Melvin and Roker were cohosting with Savannah Guthrie <\/strong>and Dylan Dreyer<\/strong> when the incident occurred. The Today show later issued a statement offering further information<\/a> about what happened.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured.\u201d<\/p>\n The statement continued, \u201cTODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.\u201d<\/p>\n Multiple outlets have since reported that a security guard was fired following the breach. Truelove, meanwhile, is facing several charges, including hate crime \u2014 criminal trespass and harassment, and has yet to be arraigned.<\/p>\n Melvin broke his silence on the frightening situation in a brief message shared via Instagram on Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cHey everyone. I\u2019ve heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I\u2019m doing just fine,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThanks for reaching out. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow.\u201d<\/p>\n During Friday\u2019s live show, Melvin elaborated on how he was doing<\/a>, assuring viewers that he was \u201csafe and sound.\u201d<\/p>\n
