The project follows Christopher\u2019s Oscar-winning success with Oppenheimer, while Matt remains best known for films including Good Will Hunting, The Bourne franchise, The Martian, Saving Private Ryan and The Talented Mr. Ripley.<\/p>\n
\nDiscussing the physical preparation for the role, Matt was quoted by People saying: \u201cI didn\u2019t change it in an unhealthy way.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe continued: \u201cI think if I had done the opposite and put weight on, that would have been dangerous and it\u2019s not something I\u2019ll do anymore. I was happy to do it earlier in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nTo portray the battle-weary Greek king, Matt explained changing his diet became central to the process.<\/p>\n
\nHe said he eliminated gluten, \u201camong other things.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe actor added: \u201cIt was more about just getting really, really physically fit, which just really involves changing your diet, just a whole lifestyle change.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou have to just be very, very intentional about everything you\u2019re putting in your body.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFilming took the cast and crew across several countries as they recreated Homer\u2019s mythical world using large-scale practical locations alongside visual effects designed for IMAX presentation.<\/p>\n
\nLooking back on the experience, Matt said: \u201cThis movie was by far the hardest movie to the most challenging movie I\u2019ve ever been a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe explained everyone involved had been \u201ccompletely maxing out and straining against what they thought was possible\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nMatt compared the production to a real-life expedition rather than a conventional film shoot.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cIt really felt more like an expedition than a movie.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMatt added: \u201cAnd if you were cold and wet, you just turned and you looked and Chris was just as cold and just as wet and going through it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBy the end of each filming week, exhaustion had become routine.<\/p>\n
\nMatt said: \u201cPeople were just running on fumes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cBut that feeling of elation when we would get to the end of a week and we\u2019d look around and it was a real sense of pride like, \u2018Okay, that\u2019s another week.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I would go home like everyone else and just kind of sleep, get my rest and be ready for Monday. I loved every minute of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFor Matt, however, the most meaningful reaction came after sharing the completed film with one of his daughters.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI have one daughter who\u2019s really not reverential at all about (my movies) and loves to give me s***.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRecalling her response to his latest effort, Matt said: \u201cShe saw The Odyssey, and at the end she actually turned to me and she said, \u2018Dad, I\u2019m proud of you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added with a laugh: \u201cShe\u2019s never said anything like that, because we joke around a lot. At that point I was kind of like, \u2018I\u2019m good. It was all worth it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nChristopher\u2019s adaptation of The Odyssey follows Odysseus as he battles storms, mythical creatures and impossible odds in an attempt to return home to Ithaca.<\/p>\n
