The engrossing story (premiering Wednesday, July 15, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/best-shows-on-apple-tv-right-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple TV<\/a>) follows Luciana \u201cLucky\u201d Armstrong, winningly portrayed by <em>Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/em> star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/anya-taylor-joy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Anya Taylor-Joy<\/strong><\/a>, who also produces. She was raised by a con artist (<strong>Timothy Olyphant<\/strong>), which means she\u2019s been a crime accomplice since she was little \u2014 and she\u2019s very good at it!<\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n\t<br \/>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/themes\/us-weekly\/assets\/img\/newsletter-bg-wide.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"newsletter-form__background background-wide\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The real action of the seven-episode show, based on the 2021 novel of the same name by <strong>Marissa Stapley<\/strong>, kicks off the day before the chase, in Las Vegas, where Lucky and boyfriend Cary (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/drew-starkey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Drew Starkey<\/strong><\/a>) are celebrating their final heist and fantasizing about retirement on a faraway island. Alas, the next morning Cary \u2014 and the millions they stole \u2014 are gone, and Lucky\u2019s left holding the literal bag. With police swarming the hotel, Lucky needs to figure out where her double-crossing ex has gone and how to get the money back before she\u2019s caught.<\/p>\n<p>But the feds, including Agent Billie Rand (<strong>Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor<\/strong>), aren\u2019t the only ones looking for her. There\u2019s also Cary\u2019s mom (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/annette-bening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Annette Bening<\/strong><\/a>), a crime boss who needs to find the cash before Lucky does or else they\u2019ll both be killed.<\/p>\n<p>The propulsive series features characters that are up to no good, but also complex, and a particular highlight is watching Taylor-Joy portray Lucky\u2019s obvious intelligence and vulnerability. She clearly regrets that all she knows is crime, and the combination makes for a thriller with unexpected depth.
