Vanessa Marcil<\/a>, Noah, 13, Bodhi, 12,and Journey, nine, with Megan, and Zane, four, with partner Sharna Burgess – admitted he “didn’t expect” his 15-year union with the Jennifer’s Body star to come to an end but he turned to therapy to help him figure out his bad habits in his romances in the hope of forging a brighter future.<\/p>\nSpeaking on the I Do, Part 2 podcast, he said: \u201cUntil Sharna [Burgess], my ex and I were together for almost 15 years. We were married for almost 10 years and I led with physical attraction.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst, I\u2019d be physically attracted to somebody and then sort of build a relationship around that.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
“I was divorced, which I didn\u2019t expect. I had three kids. I was a single parent. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I knew that I didn\u2019t want to repeat things that I had done. So I went through all sorts of therapy and all sorts of things to really figure out what it was that I brought into a relationship that was just toxic and wasn\u2019t good and wasn\u2019t helping the relationship at all.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAfter working on himself, Brian, realised he needed to \u201cbe friends with someone first\u201d before pursuing a romantic relationship and adopted this “different” approach with Sharna.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI think when you started from a place of a genuine connection with someone, then you\u2019re not so concerned about whether they are truly into you or not, because you guys are already speaking to each other in a very transparent way. <\/p>\n
\n“Sharna and I talked about our best qualities and our worst qualities together. We sort of put it all out on the table.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cFor us, it was pretty apparent then like, \u2018Oh, hey, we should stick with us. This seems to be working.’<\/p>\n
\n“Your approach to a relationship is the best way to know if it\u2019s just a purely physical connection. That\u2019s only going to last for so long that you\u2019re going to get to a point where you go, \u2018I can\u2019t stand that other person. So they\u2019re not hot to me anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe Zombie Plane actor also admitted it took a while to find the right mindset when it came to co-parenting his kids because he was initially focusing on his sadness at misisng out on “half the life” of his boys.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I know I grieved the concept of missing half the life of my kids. That meant a lot to me. That was a big deal. <\/p>\n
\n“Then I quickly realised, \u2018Oh man, while they are at their mom\u2019s house, I get a chance to recharge.’<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThen when they come back over, I can give them all of my attention. And I\u2019ve spent the four days out of the seven days or whatever it is just taking care of myself and being with my partner that I have now and doing things for me so I don\u2019t have that overwhelmed feeling the same way when my kids come back.\u201d<\/p>\n
