Brandy<\/strong><\/a> encouraged her fans to be \u201cgentler with one another\u201d in an empowering post about body positivity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve learned that it takes only a moment to form an opinion about someone\u2019s appearance, and a lifetime to understand what they\u2019ve lived through,\u201d the Cinderella<\/em><\/a> star, 47, wrote to her Instagram followers<\/a> on Saturday, July 11.\u201dSo may we become gentler with one another. Not because everyone is fragile, but because everyone is carrying a story we cannot see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her open letter started with a reflection on what \u201cbeauty\u201d actually means in the age of social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps we\u2019ve been looking for it in all the wrong places. In youth. In perfection. In approval. In bodies that never change and faces that never age,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut life was never meant to leave us untouched. It shapes us. It humbles us. It refines us. Every season leaves its signature upon us. And maybe that\u2019s where beauty has been all along. Not in escaping change, but in becoming through it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well-known activists have used social media as a tool to spread more messages of self-love to their fans. Mindy Kaling made a splash when she posted a series of photos of herself wearing different two-piece [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The \u201cBoy Is Mine\u201d singer \u2014 who shares daughter Sy\u2019rai<\/strong>, 24, with ex Robert \u201cBig Bert\u201d Smith<\/strong> \u2014 advised fans that \u201cthe world will always be tempted to measure people by what is visible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut love has never looked only at the surface. Love sees the whole person,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI\u2019ve stopped trying to earn my reflection. I\u2019ve stopped asking the mirror to tell me who I am. I know who I am. And that knowing has given me a freedom no opinion could ever take away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brandy wrapped up her post by expressing hope that her thoughtful words would leave an impression on potential body-shamers.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore you speak about someone\u2019s body, before you speak about someone\u2019s face, before you decide who they are by what you see, remember, you are looking at someone\u2019s child. Someone\u2019s friend. Someone\u2019s dream. Someone\u2019s life. A soul,\u201d she concluded. \u201cAnd souls have always been more beautiful than surfaces.\u201d<\/p>\n
