\u201cWatching you achieve something this big has filled my heart with so much pride,\u201d Adendort wrote via Instagram on May 27, before Adams and the South Africa national team appeared in this year\u2019s World Cup tournament \u2013 the first appearance for South Africa in 16 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the hard work, sacrifices, early mornings, disappointments, and moments nobody saw \u2014 you kepg going, stayed disciplined, and trusted God through it all,\u201d she continued in the caption, shared alongside three photos of the couple posing for the camera. \u201cAnd now look at you\u2026 representing your country on then national team.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added at the time, \u201cI don\u2019t think you even realize how inspiring you are. You deserve every single moment of this because I\u2019ve seen how much you\u2019ve worked for it. Through every challenge, you never gave up on your dream, and that alone makes me so proud to stand beside you and support you through it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The South African Football Players Union announced<\/a> on Saturday, July 11, that the 25-year-old soccer star, a midfielder who played for both the Mamelodi Sundowns <\/a>and Bafana Bafana<\/a>, had died.<\/p>\n

Adams appeared in South Africa\u2019s 2-0 World Cup loss<\/a> to Mexico and it\u2019s 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic. He was a substitute player in the national team\u2019s 1-0 win over South Korea, but he did not appear in the team\u2019s loss to Canada, which knocked South Africa out of 2026 World Cup competition.<\/p>\n

According to Gayton McKenzie<\/strong>, South Africa\u2019s minister of sports, arts and culture, authorities have not established an official cause of death at the time of publication. In a written statement<\/a> shared in the wake of the player\u2019s death, McKenzie urged the media and fans to abstain from speculation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to appeal to members of the media and the public to exercise restraint and compassion, and to refrain from speculation, while his family and Mamelodi Sundowns are given the space and privacy they need at this incredibly difficult time,\u201d he said via social media. \u201cAny official information will be communicated by the appropriate parties in due course.\u201d<\/p>\n
