Emmy Rossum<\/strong><\/a> is sharing the story behind her first marriage to music executive Justin Siegel<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n

The Shameless<\/em> actress married Justin<\/strong> at the age of 21 and never told anyone about the marriage, not even her mom. <\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> and Justin<\/strong> met when she<\/a> was recording her pop album in 2007. At the time, he worked at her label Interscope Records in Artists and Repertoire (A&R), the division of a record label that is responsible for scouting and artist development.<\/p>\n

While appearing on the new episode of Alex Cooper<\/strong><\/a>‘s podcast Call Her Daddy<\/em>, Emmy<\/strong> opened up about the ultimatum that Justin<\/strong> gave to her, leading to them getting married.<\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> married Justin<\/strong> in February 2008, right before she traveled to Mexico for six months to film Dragonball: Evolution<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI started dating Justin<\/strong>, and he worked at Interscope Records that I was signed to. And we were dating for maybe a couple months. We liked each other. And then I got Dragonball: Evolution<\/em> and I was going to go away for six months to Mexico, the middle of Mexico, and make this movie. And I remember the day that I was going away to make the movie, he said something to me like, \u2018I don\u2019t know if the relationship is gonna survive the distance. So maybe we should break up or get married,’” Emmy<\/strong> recalled. <\/p>\n

Alex<\/strong> was in shock and Emmy<\/strong> said, “How could I make this up?”<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI literally had a flight that night to Durango, Mexico… At that moment, I thought to myself, \u2018Well, I’m just coming off these two really rough heartbreaks.\u2019 Abandonment is my core wound. I don’t want that. That hurts me. And my 21-year-old brain thought, ‘You know. Divorce doesn\u2019t seem that complicated. Like, it\u2019s probably pretty straightforward.\u2019”<\/p>\n

Alex<\/strong> asked if Emmy<\/strong> was planning the divorce before the wedding even happened and she replied, “100%.”<\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> said that Justin<\/strong> \u201cliterally printed out a marriage contract online and got some guy on the internet to come over my house. I found a white turtleneck that was in my closet and threw it on \u2018cause I was like, \u2018This is appropriate, right?\u2019 Literally not hearing the smoke detector in my head being like, \u2018Don’t do this. You don’t have to do this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> kept the marriage a secret until it was time to get a divorce. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was my intention not to tell anybody, because I knew in my gut it wasn\u2019t right,” Emmy<\/strong> said. <\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> was away filming the movie for 6 months and she says that Justin<\/strong> never visited her while she was on set, despite his ultimatum to get married. <\/p>\n

“When I got back, it became abundantly clear we weren’t a match in any way,” she said. \u201cI told my mom, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m breaking up with Justin<\/strong>, and I need a lawyer.\u2019 She was like, \u2018You did not.\u2019 I was like, \u2018I did.’ And my mom has always been somebody that mobilizes. If anyone is going through a breakup\u2014my mom is not employed right now\u2014so, if you need someone to show up, she’ll send you for a manicure and be like, \u2018I have the U-Haul. Go take care of yourself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Emmy<\/strong> eventually met TV creator Sam Esmail<\/strong><\/a> in 2013 and they got married in 2017. They are parents to two kids<\/a>: a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. <\/p>\n

Justin<\/strong> is now the executive producer of conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro<\/strong>‘s podcast. <\/p>\n
