\nThe 68-year-old \u2018Today\u2019 weatherman\u2019s daughter Courtney Roker gave birth to her and husband Wesley Laga\u2019s first baby \u2013 a daughter they have called Sky Clara Laga \u2013 on 3 July. <\/p>\n
\nThe news was announced by Al\u2019s co-anchors, who said the family \u201ccouldn\u2019t be happier\u201d the baby was healthy. <\/p>\n
\nCourtney, 36, told her Instagram followers in March that she was pregnant. <\/p>\n
\nAl revealed to Entertainment Tonight in May Courtney Roker was pregnant with a baby girl \u2013 but after telling the outlet he was getting a \u201cgranddaughter\u201d he tried to backtrack and say he had a \u201cgrandchild\u201d on the way. <\/p>\n
\nAl added he hadn\u2019t wanted to know the baby\u2019s sex in the first place but found out on text. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201c(Courtney sent) me a sonogram picture and I said, \u2018That baby looks just like you,\u2019 and she said, \u2018Doesn\u2019t she?\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd then you see the bubbles. (She wrote), \u2018I\u2019m so sorry!\u2019 and I went, \u2018You had one (job)!\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI wanted to be surprised.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nCourtney announced she was pregnant on Instagram with the message: \u201cA new adventure is about to begin. Here we go! So very very happy!!!!!\u201d <\/p>\n
\nAl said on the \u2018Today\u2019 show the day after the post he wanted to be called \u201cPop Pop\u201d, adding about his wife Deborah Roberts\u2019 reaction to the news: \u201cDeborah is still not quite sure about the grandma thing, but we\u2019re very excited. It still hasn\u2019t quite sunken in.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nThe weather man adopted Courtney in 1987 with his then-wife, Alice Bell. <\/p>\n
\nAfter their divorce in 1994 he moved on with Deborah and had two more children \u2013 daughter Leila, 24, and 20-year-old son Nick. <\/p>\n
\nCourtney\u2019s daughter is his first grandchild. <\/p>\n
\nHis joy over becoming a grandad has been mixed with torment over his recent health struggles. <\/p>\n
\nHe admitted last year his string of recent hospitalisations had been \u201ctough\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nAl\u2019s health battles hit headlines in November when he explained his temporary absence on the NBC morning show. <\/p>\n
\nHe told his Instagram followers: \u201cLast week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAfter some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nAl also had an emergency carpal tunnel surgical procedure in 2018 and a hip replacement the following year. <\/p>\n
\nIn November 2020, he shared a prostate cancer diagnosis with viewers, warning the disease \u2013 which he beat after surgery \u2013 was \u201ca little aggressive\u201d despite him catching it early. <\/p>\n
\nHe is currently recovering from knee surgery on 9 May, and his wife Deborah has told fans he is \u201csick and tired of being sick and tired\u201d after the procedure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
