McCormack\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-judge-dismissed-every-claim-in-the-lawsuit\">The judge dismissed every claim in the lawsuit<\/h2>\n<p>People all around the world hate <em>The Daily Mail<\/em>. It goes with the territory of being a fairly notorious British tabloid.<\/p>\n<p>However, few hate it as much as Harry and his fellow litigants.<\/p>\n<p>Elton John, David Furnish, Sadie Frost, Elizabeth Hurley, and Baroness Doreen Lawrence all sued the notorious tabloid for invasion of privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Harry has won real victories in the fight for privacy. In 2023, against <em>The Daily Mirror<\/em>. and in 2025, against <em>The Sun<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Tragically, this week, a British judge dismissed the lawsuit against <em><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/prince-harry-lawsuit-daily-mail-charles-elton-2ada29f1fc84ade5d414c3b49ac47ac6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Mail<\/a><\/em>, citing insufficient evidence on the part of the litigants. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Prince Harry speaks out after losing case against UK tabloid publisher\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nsrOj4gEdAI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In the aftermath, the Duke of Sussex and Baroness Lawrence put out a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected,\u201d the pair acknowledged with resignation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the lengths to which the court has gone to exonerate the Mail is as shocking as it is totally unwarranted,\u201d they then observed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the court\u2019s ruling (the ruling is hundreds of pages in length, so we may be missing some nuance here), they simply didn\u2019t have an obvious smoking gun.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Harry had evidence such as admissions of guilt. The court didn\u2019t feel that the litigants could prove <em>The Daily Mail<\/em>\u2018s culpability.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Prince Harry lashes out at High Court Judge over Daily Mail case | 9 News Australia\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0Hb8C_uOJoQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-much-did-all-of-this-cost\">How much did all of this cost?<\/h2>\n<p>In the wake of this bitter setback, much of the attention has been on Harry \u2014 and how much this lawsuit must have cost.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, this entire miserable ordeal may have cost between $53 \u2013 67 million.<\/p>\n<p>One would think, from some of the gleeful tabloid coverage, that Harry was the only litigant.<\/p>\n<p>People have snarkily joked that Meghan Markle will need to sell a lot more jam, a reference to her successful As Ever product line.<\/p>\n<p>But we should note that Harry was not the only litigant. Don\u2019t ignore Sir Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley like that.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why Harry&#039;s privacy case defeat to Mail publisher is so damaging\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VlZqVfd0ddQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Some are gleefully predicting that Harry, who is worth tens of millions, is now \u201cbroke.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But actually, no, that\u2019s not the truth. At least, there is no reason to believe so.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is he one of multiple litigants, but some have speculated that Harry and his co-defendants are insured for just an occasion such as this.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot confirm that. We also cannot deny that. <\/p>\n<p>Harry\u2019s made headlines around the world for striking back in court after years of harassment and invasions of privacy by some truly despicable enterprises.
