Yellowstone<\/em><\/a>\u2018s Kelly Reilly <\/strong>and Cole Hauser<\/strong> are revealing just how involved<\/a> they were in replacing the Dutton Ranch<\/em> showrunner after a shocking offscreen exit.<\/a><\/p>\n

Hauser, 51, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> <\/a>on Monday, July 6, about how he became acquainted with Benjamin Cavell<\/strong>, who is taking over after Chad Feehan<\/strong> stepped down in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a dear friend who worked with him on SEAL Team for six or seven seasons. He\u2019s somebody I trust with my life,\u201d Hauser noted. \u201cWe went to boot camp together \u2014 a lot of time in the jungle together in Louisiana.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hauser recalled the moment he realized Cavell was a good fit for the hit show.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cSo it was his recommendation of Ben, and the way creatively that Ben is and the kind of person he is and how his mind works, and we saw a glimpse of it,\u201d he continued \u201cWe had a very good meeting with him, and I cannot wait for this new iteration of Ben and his team of guys that he hires, along with David Glasser and the people who are involved, and to really sink our teeth into what this next show is going to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the excitement for season 2, Hauser noted that there\u2019s \u201cnot there yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is very early in the process,\u201d he concluded. \u201cBut I get home, and I know Kelly is chomping at the bit, and we\u2019ll get into it and have some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reilly, 48, meanwhile, was on the same page<\/a> about enjoying their break, adding that she is \u201clooking forward to having a bit of time off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m percolating,\u201d she added. \u201cChristina Voros is our executive producer, director and lighthouse creative. She\u2019s been with us from season 1 of Yellowstone. Everything we do goes through her brain because she\u2019s so brilliant, and she\u2019s going to be working with Ben.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress was excited to experience<\/a> the \u201cA-team.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Taylor [Sheridan] is going to be involved as far as some story ideas as well, which is great. So I feel excited about a season 2 because I want it to be better. I want it to be great,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019m excited to get my hands dirty after a bit of time to digest what we\u2019ve just done. I think time and thought is important. You have to have that. It\u2019s not a machine. We all know that it can be, but I like that we have time to really be thoughtful and go, what could this be?\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/em> previously confirmed that Feehan would not return as showrunner after completing season 1. Puck News previously reported that Feehan stepped away from Dutton Ranch after alleged friction with series stars Hauser and Reilly \u2014 who play Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, respectively \u2014 among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cShowrunners change all the time. This business is about adapting,\u201d he told The Hollywood Reporter last month. \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reilly had a similar outlook<\/a> on the shakeup.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We\u2019re all creative minds and we all work together and I\u2019m so proud of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Voros, meanwhile, broke her silence about Feehan\u2019s reported firing, telling ScreenRant in May that he did \u201can exceptional job building a world of adversaries for Rip and Beth\u201d in the Yellowstone spinoff.<\/p>\n
