Sullivan\u2019s Crossing<\/em> has made fans fall in love with the small Canadian town \u2014 but where is the hit show actually filmed?<\/p>\n

Based on the book series by Robyn Carr<\/strong>, Sullivan\u2019s Crossing<\/em> follows neurosurgeon<\/a> Maggie (Morgan Kohan<\/strong>) as she finds herself in legal trouble and returns to her hometown in rural Nova Scotia to reconnect with her estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Maggie quickly falls in love with the area \u2014 and the people \u2014 again and chooses to stay. Three seasons later, Maggie is planting roots in Sullivan\u2019s Crossing with love interest Cal (Chad Michael Murray<\/strong>) but some viewers might be surprised to know that the town itself isn\u2019t real.<\/p>\n

Is Sullivan\u2019s Crossing a Real Place?<\/h3>\n

The fictional town (and campground) of Sullivan\u2019s Crossing is actually the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The show relies on areas such as Oakfield Provincial Park, Shandon\u2019s Diner, Beaver Bank, Shubie Park and Eastern Passage to serve as backdrops for key scenes. There is also footage from Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park and the village of Peggy\u2019s Cove.<\/p>\n

In Carr\u2019s books, Sullivan\u2019s Crossing<\/em> is in the Rocky Mountains. Showrunner Roma Roth<\/strong> decided to change locations after Carr\u2019s other book series<\/a> \u2014 Virgin River<\/em> \u2014 found success on Netflix.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo ensure the show would feel distinctive from her [Carr\u2019s] other adaptation, I decided to set it in Nova Scotia for Nova Scotia,\u201d Roth told Variety<\/em> in 2022 about moving from the states to Canada. \u201cThis meant diverging from the books slightly. However, having been born and raised in Canada it\u2019s always been a personal goal of mine to create and write a Canadian content show that would reach a global audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kohan \u2014 and the rest of the cast \u2014 have also praised the chance to spend time in Canada for the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my God, I love this city,\u201d she told Brit + Co<\/em> in 2023. \u201cThe nice thing about it too is it\u2019s a city and then [a little bit] out, you can be out on a trail somewhere in a small community. There\u2019s just so many different bits and pieces you can pick from.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray referred to the area as a \u201chidden gem,\u201d<\/a> telling Parade<\/em> in 2023, \u201cIt is the best kept secret in Canada. This place is absolutely magic. We\u2019re out there every day and it\u2019s just such a breath of fresh air filming. You\u2019re among nature and you can\u2019t help but feel so grounded. It\u2019s pretty spectacular. It\u2019s a place that people need to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
