{"id":249933,"date":"2026-07-03T16:00:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T16:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/03\/the-biggest-cruise-ship-ever-built-is-about-to-debut-in-europe-the-points-guy\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T16:00:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T16:00:43","slug":"the-biggest-cruise-ship-ever-built-is-about-to-debut-in-europe-the-points-guy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/03\/the-biggest-cruise-ship-ever-built-is-about-to-debut-in-europe-the-points-guy\/","title":{"rendered":"The biggest cruise ship ever built is about to debut in Europe &#8211; The Points Guy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Yet another record-size cruise ship is about to debut \u2014 this time in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed Legend of the Seas, the 20-deck-high <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/cruise\/royal-caribbean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal Caribbean<\/a><\/span> vessel will sail from Civitavecchia, Italy, on Saturday on a maiden voyage that will take it to Marseille, France; Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and La Spezia, Italy before a return trip to Civitavecchia.<\/p>\n<p>Built at the giant Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, Legend of the Seas is the latest ship in Royal Caribbean&#8217;s much-ballyhooed <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/cruise\/royal-caribbean-ship-class-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Icon Class series<\/a><\/span>, which is setting new records for ship sizes.<\/p>\n<p>Two earlier vessels in the two-year-old series \u2014 <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/cruise\/reviews\/icon-of-the-seas-worlds-largest-cruise-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Icon of the Seas<\/a><\/span> and Star of the Seas \u2014 each are about 6% bigger than the previous size leader among cruise ships, Royal Caribbean&#8217;s four-year-old <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/cruise\/reviews\/wonder-of-the-seas-cruise-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wonder of the Seas<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Like both of its sisters, Legend of the Seas measures about 248,660 gross tons. But it&#8217;s a foot longer than the two earlier Icon Class vessels, making it the new world&#8217;s largest cruise ship \u2014 if only by a tad.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">Room for nearly 10,000 people<\/h2>\n<p>Like its sisters, Legend of the Seas is able to hold up to 7,600 passengers with every berth full \u2014 a record-breaking number that tops any other vessels afloat by a significant amount.<\/p>\n<p>Add in 2,350 crew members, and Legend of the Seas, like its sisters, can sail at times with nearly 10,000 people on board \u2014 also a record for a cruise vessel.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"jsx-3874346954 tpg-figure\">\n<div style=\"padding-top:0\" class=\"jsx-2453190082 full-width-auto-height-image\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"jsx-3874346954 figcaption\">Legend of the Seas is loaded with top deck amusements. ROYAL CARIBBEAN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As is typical for the world&#8217;s largest cruise ships, both Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas debuted in Florida, the cruise capital of the world. You may unsubscribe at any time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>That makes it by far the largest cruise vessel ever to debut in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Legend of the Seas&#8217; Mediterranean sailings, mostly seven nights in length, will begin in Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) and Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>After repositioning to Florida, it&#8217;ll operate alternating six- and eight-night sailings to the Western Caribbean and Southern Caribbean with calls at some ports such as Falmouth, Jamaica and Willemstad, Curacao that <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/royal-caribbean-new-icon-cruise-ship-name-itinerary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">haven&#8217;t traditionally seen Icon Class ships<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>All Legend of the Seas voyages will also feature calls at <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/cruise\/royal-caribbean-perfect-day-at-cococay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Perfect Day at CocoCay<\/a><\/span>, Royal Caribbean&#8217;s hugely popular private island in the Bahamas.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">Designed for families<\/h2>\n<p>Like the two other vessels in the Icon Class series, Legend of the Seas has been designed with families in mind.<\/p>\n<p>The Icon Class series of ships boasts more cabins offering extra bunks to accommodate families with children than earlier Royal Caribbean vessels. ROYAL CARIBBEAN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Surfside areas, notably, feature splash areas for babies and kids, pools and lounge spaces for parents, family-friendly eateries and shops.<\/p>\n<p>The Icon Class ships also feature seven pools and the largest water parks ever built on a cruise ship, with a record six waterslides each.
