In the opening bars of The Life of a Showgirl<\/em>\u2019s \u201cElizabeth Taylor,\u201d<\/a> Taylor Swift<\/a> poses a question that both she and the song\u2019s namesake<\/a> have been asked over and over about their respective romantic relationships: \u201cDo you think it\u2019s forever?\u201d<\/p>\n As the world breathlessly watches to see if Swift and Travis Kelce really do tie the knot<\/a> this weekend, at New York City\u2019s Madison Square Garden or elsewhere<\/a>, the parallels between Swift and Elizabeth Taylor<\/a>, the classic Hollywood icon whom Swift has referenced in song and style through the years, even wearing pieces from the late star\u2019s jewelry collection<\/a>, have never felt more obvious. Taylor, famously married eight times to seven men in the course of her life, was one of the biggest stars in the world and the source of endless fascination and public scrutiny, especially when it came to her romantic life. Swift, of course, has faced the same appraisals of her own relationships, to the degree that she once \u201cswore off hanging out with guys\u201d<\/a> and dating altogether in hopes of starving the gossip mill, to no avail. In 2024, one of Taylor\u2019s sons, Christopher Wilding, told The Guardian<\/em><\/a> that Swift was the current celebrity who reminded him most of his mother.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how much I admire Taylor Swift. I\u2019m now a Swiftie,\u201d he said. \u201cThat reminds me a little bit of the same spirit my mom had.\u201d<\/p>\n
