The creative team behind Elle<\/em> have a message for those concerned about the Legally Blonde<\/em><\/a> prequel.<\/p>\n

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly<\/em>, showrunners Laura Kittrell, Caroline Dries<\/strong> and executive producer Lauren Neustadter<\/strong> weighed in on the initial concerns on social media about reviving the fictional Elle Woods as a teenager.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody was worried about it more than us,\u201d Kittrell recalled about the strong online reaction. \u201cThat is definitely what kept us up at night.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team had a vision for how to keep<\/a> their version grounded.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe iconic comedy that gave us \u201cbend and snap!\u201d lives on! Released in 2001, Legally Blonde follows Reese Witherspoon\u2018s Elle Woods, a sorority girl who is dumped by her boyfriend who thinks he\u2019s too good for her. In an effort to prove him wrong and win him back, she hits the books and is accepted [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe always went back to tone. We always went back to what we emotionally connected to about the movie \u2014 just as fans of the movie \u2014 and making sure that we had those things down perfectly,\u201d Kittrell continued. \u201cThen once we were able to firmly establish that, we were getting excited about how we have new characters that we get to introduce to the world and still make it feel like its own thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cWe tried really hard to strike a balance of if you\u2019re a fan of the movie, you\u2019re going to watch this and get what you want as a fan of the movie. If you have never watched this movie in your life or even heard of it, you will also totally find something to connect to in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Amanda Brown<\/strong>\u2018s novel, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde<\/em> introduced Us<\/em> to Elle Woods<\/a> (Reese Witherspoon<\/strong>), a sorority girl who attempted to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis<\/strong>) by getting a degree at Harvard Law School. Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber<\/strong> and Jennifer Coolidge<\/strong> rounded out the cast, with a second movie following two years later.<\/p>\n

While news broke in 2018 that Witherspoon, 50, had teamed up with Mindy Kaling for Legally Blonde 3, there has been no real update since. Instead, Prime Video announced a prequel focused on Elle\u2019s move from Los Angeles to Seattle when she was in high school.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film,\u201d the official synopsis for the new series reads. \u201cIn other words, get ready for the teen years of this legendary lawyer\u2019s story.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Lexi Minetree<\/strong> taking on the role as teen Elle<\/em>, the series stars June Diane Raphael <\/strong>and Tom Everett Scott<\/strong> as Elle\u2019s parents. Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano<\/strong> and Jacob Moskovitz<\/strong> were also announced as series regulars alongside Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Amy Pietz<\/strong> and more. (James Van Der Beek<\/strong> also joined the cast for what would become his final TV role before his death.)<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really wanted to honor the movie. We are all fans,\u201d Neustadter shared with Us<\/em>. \u201cWe always think about the fans and I think staying really tightly tied to that original movie was an incredibly important thing and always really our north star.\u201d<\/p>\n
