Taylor Sheridan<\/strong><\/a> found immense success after making the switch from acting to screenwriting \u2014 but he eventually moved out of Los Angeles.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sheridan originally explored a career as an actor with roles on Veronica Mars, Sons of Anarchy<\/em> and more. He pivoted to writing scripts for movies, including Sicario, Hell or High Water<\/em> and Wind River<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The producer\u2019s focus later shifted to the small screen<\/a>, which paved the way for Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s success. The hit series aired from 2018 to 2024 as viewers tuned in to keep tabs on the fictional Dutton family. Sheridan has also worked on original shows Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King<\/em> and more.<\/p>\n

News broke in October 2025 that Sheridan closed a major with NBCUniversal. The five-year overall deal for film, TV and streaming will begin January 1, 2029, after Sheridan\u2019s TV deal with Paramount \u2014 which goes through 2028 \u2014 officially ends.<\/p>\n

Paramount will retain the rights to Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> and the other franchises Sheridan created under his deal with the company, so he is expected to create a brand new IP for NBCUniversal. Sheridan\u2019s move came after Paramount\u2019s merger with Skydance.<\/p>\n

Sheridan was born in North Carolina before making the move to Texas. He lived in New York City and Los Angeles during his time as an actor. After not feeling fulfilled in front of the camera, Sheridan made the transition into screenwriting after he turned 40.<\/p>\n

After Yellowstone<\/em> became a big hit, Sheridan continued to expand his TV empire. He has also shared his unfiltered opinions on everything from not caring for TV critics to not listening to script notes from any network.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI knew when I started writing [I wanted] to simply not do what everyone else was doing,\u201d he said on \u201cThe Bill Simmons Podcast\u201d in June 2026. \u201cWhat everyone else was doing was taking shortcuts, essentially breaking all the very basic fundamental rules of storytelling, because they couldn\u2019t figure out their story. With a movie, you\u2019re supposed to show me what\u2019s happening. The camera is supposed to move the story. The dialogue is supposed to tell me how the people in this world feel about what\u2019s happening or what they hope to do or what they wish they hadn\u2019t done or had done.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Has Taylor Sheridan Shared About His Success?<\/h2>\n

\u201cOur business, at this point, is truly governed by these executives because they\u2019re the ones that are going to determine whether or not your script is going to go into production. They\u2019re going to try and control every element of that,\u201d Sheridan continued in June 2026 about setting boundaries when he signed his deal with Paramount.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThis is not a democracy. There\u2019s no committee. You\u2019re going to pay me and you\u2019re going to give me a bunch of money and I\u2019m going to deliver you these shows. I\u2019m pretty common and I\u2019m going to tell stories that common people are going to understand. That\u2019s most of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where Does Taylor Sheridan Live Now?<\/h2>\n

Similar to his characters, Sheridan has preferred life outside of California<\/a>. He currently lives near Fort Worth, Texas, with another place in Wyoming \u2014 and he has no plans on heading back to Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve made it pretty clear that the only way you\u2019re getting me back to Los Angeles is if it secedes from the Union and I\u2019m drafted into the Army to take it back,\u201d Sheridan said on a June episode of \u201cThe Bill Simmons Podcast,\u201d adding, \u201cIt\u2019s the only way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheridan said his dislike for Los Angeles didn\u2019t extend to other major cities, including New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love New York,\u201d he added. \u201cThat city\u2019s way, way stronger than whatever political wind is blowing it in any direction, right? Whereas Los Angeles is built on sand. It ain\u2019t strong. There\u2019s no foundation there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why Did Taylor Sheridan Step Away From L.A.?<\/h2>\n

In order to focus on his work, Sheridan opted for somewhere more peaceful and quiet outside of California. The producer, who shares a son with wife Nicole Muirbrook<\/strong>, has worked on original shows that allowed production to take place in various locations throughout the American West, including ranches.<\/p>\n

Cast members from Sheridan\u2019s shows previously spoke\u00a0about how some of them have met with Sheridan<\/a> \u2014 but others never have.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny. I was talking with some of the cast of his other shows, and at least in my experience, Taylor\u2019s like the man behind the curtain,\u201d Arielle Kebbel, who stars in Yellowstone spinoff Marshals, told People in 2026. \u201cNo one ever sees him. The man is busy. So I actually have not met him.\u201d<\/p>\n
