He seemingly ignored every attempt at a summons.<\/p>\n<p>If Jackson didn\u2019t see the lawsuit before, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/06\/jermaine-jackson-complains-allegations-ruined-jaafar-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he\u2019s taken notice now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s managed to get the default judgment voided. Mandel\u2019s June 30 ruling, which voids the default judgment against Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>The judgment would have required him to pay $6.5 million to a woman who accuse shim of rape and sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p>This was not a jury (or judicial) verdict, but a default judgment \u2014 which applies when a defendant doesn\u2019t show up in court or misses a filing deadline or something along those lines.<\/p>\n<p>In Jackson\u2019s case, he seemed to ignore the lawsuit altogether, dodging process servers and ignoring a court-approved advertisement in the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> in a bid for him to come defend himself.<\/p>\n<p>This spring, the court heard that the plaintiff\u2019s attorney had done all that they could to notify Jackson, but received no reply.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jackson Family Steps Out (Minus Paris and Janet) for &#039;Michael&#039; Biopic Premiere in Berlin\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/snMguJ8UuyI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Jackson denies having sexually assaulted Rita Butler Barrett, though that is not the substance of this ruling.<\/p>\n<p>(Rather, the ruling will give him a chance to defend himself in court, which is all that the attempts to serve him with notice of the lawsuit wanted in the first place.)<\/p>\n<p>When Jackson responded in court to the default ruling, he had two major bones to pick.<\/p>\n<p>The first was that he was incorrectly sued, as he has changed his name from the one by which everyone (including us) know him.<\/p>\n<p>The second is that he alleges to have been out of the country for the entirety of the time that the plaintiff attempted to serve him with the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Berlin Premiere Magic: The Michael Family Lights Up the Red Carpet \u2764\ufe0f #michaeljackson #michaelmovie\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2AlXA0dQfuM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jermaine-lajuane-jacksun\">\u2018Jermaine LaJuane Jacksun\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>What\u2019s Jackson\u2019s new name?<\/p>\n<p>He argues that, because he legally changed his name to \u201cJermaine LaJuane Jacksun\u201d in 2013, he was served with notice under an incorrect name.<\/p>\n<p>Names are complex. Certainly, a celebrity changing the spelling of a surname is not the most emotionally charged name change that a person might have.<\/p>\n<p>However, the court went with it.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he alleged that he was living in Bahrain, which insulated him from process servers and prevented him from seeing <em>The Los Angeles Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jackson Family Tours Indiana Home: Prince Praises Uncles and Family Legacy\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8Ys5IngU6wg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Judge Mandel seems to agree that this did not give Jackson \u2014 or Jacksun, as the case may be \u2014 a fair opportunity to respond to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Some argue that this argument shouldn\u2019t hold up, because a famous man being sued could surely have been informed by family or friends.<\/p>\n<p>But surely we\u2019d all prefer to live in a society where the courts have to do things just right before they force us to fork over a small fortune, even if it\u2019s for a good cause?<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that Barrett will have her chance to present evidence to the court and to tell her story in the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n<p>She has waited a very long time for this case to make it to trial.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/07\/jermaine-jackson-voids-default-judgment-rape-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading Time: 2 minutes This spring, a default judgment ordered Jermaine Jackson to pay $6.5 million.
