Cher<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s son Elijah Allman<\/strong> and wife Marieangela King<\/strong> have had their share of ups and downs.<\/p>\n

The couple met in 2013 and tied the knot that December. Although Allman was sober at the time of their nuptials, he struggled with substance abuse<\/a> later in their marriage. Cher and King have butted heads over the best way to care for Allman amid his battle with addiction.<\/p>\n

In September 2023, King filed a legal declaration accusing Cher of hiring four men to kidnap Allman<\/a>. She claimed that Allman was then put \u201cin lockdown at a treatment facility\u201d where he was \u201cnot allowed to see or speak\u201d to her.<\/p>\n

Cher, who shared Elijah with late ex-husband Greg Allman<\/strong>, subsequently addressed the allegations during an October 2023 interview with the New York Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCher may have had a long and successful career \u2014 but not without some of her own personal drama. The Grammy winner dropped out of high school in 1962 to focus on her music and soon after met Sonny Bono. After falling in love \u2014 and finding musical success together \u2014 the twosome tied the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou never stop being a mom \u2014 you go to the end, you go to the mattresses when you\u2019re trying to save your children. But I didn\u2019t do it. And if I did it, I wouldn\u2019t care to tell you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Elijah and King have weathered a rocky relationship in the spotlight, filing for divorce twice before reconciling in June 2026.<\/p>\n

During a February interview with The Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>, Elijah opened up about his and King\u2019s decision to elope without Cher or other family members present.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t going to wait for anyone\u2019s approval and congratulations, just like I\u2019ve never waited for any of that my whole life. The way I eloped with my wife is the same way I\u2019ve done everything I\u2019ve ever done. I don\u2019t know any other way and we knew it was the right time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Elijah added that he has \u201calways been the black sheep\u201d of his family. \u201cWe have lots of ups and downs and right now isn\u2019t the best time. Had we been getting on a little bit better maybe it would have been different,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

September 2023<\/h2>\n

In a legal declaration obtained by Us<\/em>, King claimed that she and Elijah were at a hotel in New York City in November 2022 when four men \u201chired\u201d by Cher \u201cremoved\u201d Elijah from their room.<\/p>\n

King further alleged that Elijah was \u201ccurrently in lockdown at a treatment facility that is undisclosed\u201d to her, where he had not been \u201callowed to see or speak\u201d to her. King also noted in the filing that she and Elijah had been attempting to repair their relationship at the time of the alleged kidnapping.<\/p>\n

Cher denied the claims during an interview with The New York Post<\/em> one month later.<\/p>\n

December 2023<\/h2>\n

Cher questioned King\u2019s role in Elijah\u2019s life while filing for a conservatorship<\/a> of her son, claiming that the twosome\u2019s \u201ctumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grammy winner further alleged that Elijah is \u201csubstantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues,\u201d hence her request for a conservatorship.<\/p>\n

King subsequently shot down the claims in a January 2024 statement to Us<\/em>, noting that she has \u201calways been a champion for the sober community and for Elijah\u2019s sobriety\u201d while denouncing \u201cestablishments that exclude me from being part of Elijah\u2019s treatment and hopeful recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

King also claimed that Elijah had been \u201ccoerced under false pretenses\u201d into \u201can alternative medicine regimen\u201d in October 2023 where he was allegedly \u201cthrown into a lockdown facility in Mexico, sleeping behind a locked cage with six other individuals, under an imposed Mexican Conservatorship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us<\/em> reached out to Cher for comment at the time but did not hear back.<\/p>\n

January 2024<\/h2>\n

Elijah and King filed paperwork to dismiss their divorce <\/a>in January. King\u2019s lawyer Regina Ratner<\/strong> exclusively told Us<\/em> at the time that the duo had \u201creconciled\u201d and are \u201cworking on their marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The attorney added that King \u201chas always been [Elijah\u2019s] rock\u201d and \u201chas only been a stabilizing force for him,\u201d despite Cher\u2019s claims in her conservatorship request.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Elijah is] very capable of managing his own affairs in his estate, and in periods where he is not as capable, [Marieangela] is more than capable,\u201d Ratner said.<\/p>\n

A judge denied the dismissal two weeks after Elijah\u2019s initial filing due to a temporary order for spousal support being in place, according to Page Six<\/em><\/a>. The dismissal was later approved that February.<\/p>\n

April 2025<\/h2>\n

According to court documents obtained by <\/a>Us Weekly, <\/i>King filed for divorce from Elijah after more than 11 years of marriage.<\/p>\n

In her filing, King cited \u201cirreconcilable differences\u201d as the reason behind the split and listed March 31 as the day of separation.<\/p>\n

Because the couple didn\u2019t have any children, there are no custody issues to work through. However, King requested $6,000 per month in temporary spousal support based on marital standard and ability for her estranged husband to pay, per the documents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I\u2019ll always cherish,\u201d Marieangela told TMZ at the time. \u201cI know we\u2019ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart. As we turn the page to this next chapter, we kindly ask for privacy and truly appreciate your understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following Elijah\u2019s reported overdose<\/a>, King issued a statement to\u00a0People<\/em> expressing her support for her estranged husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike many, he continues to confront his inner struggles \u2014 but it is important to recognize that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat,\u201d the statement continued. Despite the assumptions that often color how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n

King added, \u201cI want to state, without hesitation, that I will always root for him. My support is steadfast and comes from a place of deep respect for the person he is and the resilience he continues to show.\u201d<\/p>\n

June 2026<\/h2>\n

King requested her second divorce filing from Elijah be dismissed on June 2, according to court docs obtained by People<\/em><\/a>. The dismissal was granted six days later.<\/p>\n

Later that month, King filed a declaration with a Los Angeles court<\/a> asking to be included in the legal proceedings in connection with the petition filed for Elijah\u2019s permanent conservatorship. (Elijah\u2019s mother, Cher, filed for a second conservatorship<\/a> amid his highs and lows, but a judge denied the request in April 2026.)<\/p>\n

\u201cElijah and I have experienced challenges within our marriage, many of which were related to his struggles with substance abuse, mental health issues, and the consequences that fall out,\u201d King wrote in the June 22 declaration. \u201cFollowing his [2025] arrest, I filed a petition for dissolution of marriage. At that time, I was emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, and believed separation was necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n
