Peter Safran<\/strong>, co-chairperson and co-CEO of DC Studios, is making the studio\u2019s first comments about Supergirl\u2019s performance at the box office.<\/p>\n

How much did Supergirl<\/em> make at the box office during weekend 1?<\/h3>\n

In total in its first weekend, Supergirl<\/em> brought in $38 million<\/a> from 3,600 North America theaters and $68 million globally, according to Variety<\/a><\/em>. However, reports suggest that DC Studios and Warner Bros. were hoping for a domestic start around $50 million to $55 million. The film apparently cost $170 million to make, which does not include any marketing budgets. At this point, Supergirl<\/em> would need to earn at least $375 million to break even, because theater owners usually get to keep around half of the revenue earned.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the logline for the new DC movie: When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl), reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.<\/p>\n

DC Studios has several major projects on the horizon. First up is the horror movie Clayface<\/em>,<\/a> directed by James Watkins<\/strong>, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 23. That will be followed by the Superman<\/em> sequel Man of Tomorrow<\/em>,<\/a> directed by James Gunn<\/strong><\/a>. That currently has a release date of July 9, 2027. <\/p>\n

The HBO TV show Lanterns<\/em> is also on deck this year.<\/p>\n
