Muni Long has opened up about her health<\/p>\n
\nThe 37-year-old Grammy-winning singer, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, underwent the life-saving surgery after doctors gave her just a week to live – and she’s now revealed she’s “feeling good” and she’s doing everything she can to stay healthy as she recovers.<\/p>\n
\nShe told The Hollywood Reporter: “I\u2019m feeling good, as long as I do everything I\u2019m supposed to do. Make sure I take my [face] mask everywhere, take hand sanitizer \u2013 it\u2019s really how we should all be \u2013 but I\u2019ll be a lot more cognisant of my surroundings, and what I\u2019m eating, and things like that. <\/p>\n
\n“It\u2019s actually a much more healthy lifestyle.”<\/p>\n

\nMuni opened up about the moment she was told she’d die without the surgery during a recent appearance on Good Morning America.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “My jaw dropped. Literally. I was like: ‘That’s rude.’ But they were kind of like: ‘This is not a joke. You need to make a choice. You can either go to hospice or you can get these lungs.’.”<\/p>\n
\nMuni was initially concerned about how her voice might be affected by the op. But after being “faced with [her] own mortality”, she thought about her three-year-old son, Tatum – who she has with ex-husband Raysean Hairston – and decided to go under the knife. <\/p>\n
\nShe added: “The ego and the vanity was just like, ‘But what about my voice? What’s going to happen?’. <\/p>\n
\n“But then I look at my son, and I think about how much more life that I have to live. Quality of life was first. I can’t sing if I’m not here.” <\/p>\n
\nMuni is recovery well after the surgery but doctors told her she will have to wait six months to a year before she can return to the stage to sing again.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, she’s hoping to be given the green light to return to work after an upcoming check-up in August.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “Tomorrow is my last appointment for all the things. No symptoms. Asymptomatic. No infections. None of that. Then I have my vocal check-up, six months will be in August because I had to have vocal surgery, as well.”<\/p>\n
