Sara Cox is taking over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show<\/p>\n
The 51-year-old broadcaster – who has had the station’s 4-7pm Teatime slot for the last six years – will present her first morning programme on 6 July and though she acknowledged her new job is “huge”, she’s very confident in her abilities to produce a great show.<\/p>\n
She told the Sunday Times magazine: “It\u2019s huge but I\u2019m ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cI might have to bury my phone in my neighbour\u2019s sandpit a couple of days before because I don\u2019t like people texting me good luck, but the minute I open my mic, I\u2019ll be fine. I\u2019m not nervous because I know I can do a good job. I don\u2019t want to sound arrogant but I\u2019ve been doing radio for 28 years now…<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to have a chuckle and play some brilliant songs. A good breakfast show is one that makes you laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe DJ was delighted when the opportunity came up because she was ready for a new challenge.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I think if you\u2019re ambitious, you always want to do the next big thing.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAfter seven years on a show that I absolutely love, that I give 100 per cent to every day, I was starting to feel ready for another challenge. I was ready for something new and a bit scary because I quite like that feeling. It keeps you interested and interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSara has had a lot of meetings in the lead up to hew new show but she thinks there will only be one “big difference” between her afternoon and morning programmes.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThe big difference is that we didn\u2019t have a single celebrity on teatime. The stars were always the regular listeners calling in. So I am going to take them with me to breakfast, but we\u2019ll have a bit of Hollywood too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd Sara isn’t worried about the early starts because she’s already honed her getting ready routine to give her as much time in bed as possible.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “It\u2019s 5am and out of the house by 5.30am.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve timed myself \u2014 it takes eight minutes to put my make-up on and make myself presentable for the megastars when they come to chat.<\/p>\n
\n“[I’ll be in bed by 9pm] with my Kindle, which is what I do now anyway, and I wouldn\u2019t have it any other way. The difference is that I won\u2019t be getting in from work at quarter to eight and sticking on the oven while I\u2019ve still got my coat on.<\/p>\n
\n“And I do want to qualify this \u2014 there will be women reading this who\u2019ve just come off a 12-hour shift at the NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSara has landed the job after Scott Mills was abruptly sacked earlier this year after the BBC learned the alleged victim in a previous sexual misconduct complaint, which was closed in 2019, was under 16.<\/p>\n
\nBut the presenter insisted she didn’t have much to say on the subject.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cI completely understand why you\u2019re asking but I know no more than you do about the whole thing.”<\/p>\n
