Tori Spelling<\/a> took to Instagram to celebrate the huge milestone in his sobriety journey and explain that it all started with him \u201casking for help\u201d.<\/p>\nHe wrote: \u201cWOW we wee WOW!! 3 years!! Couldn\u2019t have done it without my Family, Friends, Fellowship, Sponsor and a 12 step program!! It all started with surrendering and asking for help.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also posted a video where he encouraged those who are \u201csuffering and in pain\u201d to seek help.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cToday, June 26, I celebrate three years being clean and sober. Yes, it can be done. I want to let you know out there if you\u2019re suffering and you\u2019re in pain [that] it can be done. If I can do it, you can do it. It starts by reaching out your hand and asking for help.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI know in your darkest days that seems like Mount Everest to do that, but reach out. \u2026 Ask for help, it\u2019s OK. You can\u2019t do this thing alone, none of us can.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMcDermott previously blamed his 2023 divorce from former Beverly Hills 90210 star Tori Spelling on his substance abuse issues.<\/p>\n
\nHe previously told the Daily Mail: \u201cAlcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn\u2019t – it ended up in isolation. It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week and a handful of [prescription medications] by myself with a beautiful family in the other room. That\u2019s what it led to and that\u2019s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn\u2019t do it anymore. I couldn\u2019t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI would wake up angry that I woke up and I have these five, six beautiful kids in my life, but I was so dark and hopeless, I couldn\u2019t see that. She came from just such a place of love and wanting me to be healthy and happy. \u2026 It was co-dependence. She put my well-being well ahead of hers. She loved me so much that she didn\u2019t really want to tell me how it was affecting her, although I could see it in her face.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nTori and Dean have five children together, while he also shares son Jack, 27, with ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace.<\/p>\n
