Reese Witherspoon<\/strong><\/a> offered Lexi Minetree<\/strong> surprising advice about taking on the role of Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde<\/em> <\/a>prequel series.<\/p>\n

\u201c[She told me], \u2018Always choose kindness and never go low, even when other people do,’\u201d Minetree, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> at the Elle<\/em> red carpet premiere in New York City on Tuesday, June 23.<\/p>\n

Minetree found that very meaningful as she brought a high school version<\/a> of Elle to life, adding, \u201cBecause I think with Elle, the biggest thing is that no matter what people have done to her, she always gives them the benefit of the doubt and forgives them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Amanda Brown<\/strong>\u2018s novel, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde<\/em><\/a> introduced Us<\/strong> to Elle Woods (Witherspoon), a sorority girl who attempted to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis<\/strong>) by getting a degree at Harvard Law School. Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber<\/strong> and Jennifer Coolidge<\/strong> rounded out the cast, with a second movie following two years later.<\/p>\n

While news broke in 2018 that Witherspoon, 50, had teamed up with Mindy Kaling<\/strong> for Legally Blonde 3<\/em>, there has been no real update since. Instead, Prime Video announced a prequel focused<\/a> on Elle\u2019s move from Los Angeles to Seattle when she was in high school.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film,\u201d the official synopsis for the new series reads. \u201cIn other words, get ready for the teen years of this legendary lawyer\u2019s story.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Minetree, Elle<\/em> stars June Diane Raphael <\/strong>and Tom Everett Scott<\/strong> as Elle\u2019s parents. Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano <\/strong>and Jacob Moskovitz<\/strong> were also announced as series regulars<\/a> alongside Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Amy Pietz<\/strong> and more. (James Van Der Beek<\/strong> also joined the cast for what would become his final TV role before his death.)<\/p>\n

In an effort to prove him wrong and win him back, she hits the books and is accepted [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis series was made with so much love. This also comes from the mind of Reese Witherspoon, [who plays Elle in the original films]. If that\u2019s not a stamp of approval, I don\u2019t know what is,\u201d Kinney told Us<\/em>. \u201cShe is so deeply involved in the creation of this show and she is either with us or her presence is felt from afar. But she\u2019s been a part of this whole process from top to bottom. She is so protective over the character because this Legally Blonde world has stood the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
