The man accused of killing actor John Handy<\/strong><\/a> has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.<\/p>\n According to records viewed by Us Weekly<\/em>, Michael Gledhill<\/strong> had a competency hearing on Monday, June 22, in Hollywood. Prior to the hearing, Gledhill, 44, underwent a mental health evaluation, which determined he was incompetent.<\/p>\n Following the results of the mental health evaluation, Judge Maria Cavalluzzi<\/strong> ruled that Gledhill does not understand the case against him, making him unable to assist his lawyer in his defense. Cavalluzzi also found that Gledhill cannot make proper medication decisions.<\/p>\n The judge signed an order saying Gledhill could be involuntarily medicated for one year, following a psychiatrist\u2019s determination that his mental health could be improved by proper medication. (Michael\u2019s mother and Handy\u2019s girlfriend, Wendy Gledhill<\/strong>, previously told TMZ<\/a> that her son was diagnosed with schizophrenia but had stopped taking his medication amid mental health struggles.)<\/p>\n Michael has not entered a plea and has yet to appear in court. His next court date is scheduled for July 14, during which the judge will determine his long-term placement.<\/p>\n Us<\/em> has reached out to Michael\u2019s lawyer for comment.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Handy died<\/a> after being fatally stabbed. He was 81.<\/p>\n \u201cWith great sadness I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was the actor James Handy,\u201d Handy\u2019s spokesperson said in a statement to Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n According to a statement from the police, the Top Gun: Maverick<\/em> actor was killed at a home in Los Angeles on June 3, after being stabbed by Michael.<\/p>\n \u201cOn Wednesday, June 3, 2026, around 9:30 a.m., West Valley area patrol officers responded to a radio call of unknown trouble in the 19200 block of Erwin Street.
