Olivia Rodrigo has reflected on her pop career<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old pop star has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, but Olivia admits that she’s still learning about herself on a personal and professional level.<\/p>\n
The brunette beauty – who released You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, her latest album, earlier this month – told Pitchfork: “I\u2019ve had to reckon with exactly what type of artist I want to be, and I think as I get older and my brain gets more developed, it becomes a little clearer, but I just think I\u2019m maybe not that type of artist.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s certain times where I really envy that ability to just be so present in the zeitgeist and make the thing that people want, that is, like, so consumable. There\u2019s such an art to that, and I appreciate that, but I don\u2019t think that I\u2019ve ever been really good at it.”<\/p>\n
Olivia insists she doesn’t chase chart success. Instead, the pop star wants to make music that she feels “proud” of.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I try to keep that at the forefront of things \u2014 I\u2019d so much rather make a record that told a story that I was really, really proud of that said something that I was dying to get off my chest.<\/p>\n
\n“But the ultimate goal is to make something you\u2019re proud of \u2014 everything else sort of feels hollow if you don\u2019t have that.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Olivia recently explained that she feels like she’s the “best version” of herself in London.<\/p>\n
\nThe pop star wrote a huge chunk of her new album in London, and Olivia admitted to feeling inspired by the city.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer – who previously dated London-born actor Louis Partridge – told Dazed: “I\u2019m the best version of myself when I\u2019m there. I wrote lots of the album in London; lots [of it] was inspired by my time there. Maybe it\u2019s because it rains so much that all you want to do is be inside with the guitar and write.”<\/p>\n
\nOlivia also admitted to feeling inspired by Manchester, the home of bands such as Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division, and The Stone Roses.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer said: “I spent some time in Manchester a few years ago and it was so rainy I was like, \u2018No wonder so many great bands come out of Manchester!\u2019”<\/p>\n
