Ten Thousand Ships<\/em> is a series set approximately 1,000 years before Game of Thrones<\/em> and would chronicle the journey of the warrior princess Nymeria from Essos to Dorne, following her defeat at the hands of the Dragonlords of Valyria. After being shelved, the project saw a glimmer of hope when Martin announced that he had collaborated with 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner Eboni Booth on a new pilot. The playwright expressed her enthusiasm, while wryly noting the enormous production challenges associated with ships, dragons, and gigantic creatures. The spin-off is currently in development.<\/p>\n The series, set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones<\/em>, has been permanently canceled. The story would have explored the legendary Age of Heroes, recounting the origins of the Long Night\u2014the terrible winter that ravaged Westeros\u2014and the emergence of the threat of the Others (White Walkers). A dark and untold chapter in the history of the world created by Martin, which unfortunately will never make it to the screen.<\/p>\n The spin-off would follow Aegon I Targaryen, his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys, and their respective dragons\u2014Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes\u2014during the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The project would serve as the origin story of the Targaryens\u2019 rule over the continent and would recount the birth of one of the most important symbols of the Game of Thrones<\/em> saga. Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> confirmed<\/a> the project, which is being considered in two possible formats: as a television series for HBO or as a blockbuster film produced by Warner Bros.<\/p>\n An animated spin-off dedicated to the legendary maritime explorations of Corlys Velaryon\u2014the famous \u201cSea Snake\u201d and husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen\u2014is also reportedly in development. According to rumors reported<\/a> by Deadline<\/em> in early 2026, legendary animator Genndy Tartakovsky\u2014creator of acclaimed series such as Primal<\/em> and Samurai Jack<\/em>\u2014may be involved in the project.
