Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter nearly died in an ATV accident in 2017<\/p>\n
In 2017, Maddie Briann Aldridge was airlifted to hospital after a Polaris RZR 170 she was driving flipped into a pond on her family’s property in Fluker, Louisiana, and left her close to drowning. <\/p>\n
She was in a coma for two days, and a priest was called to administer last rites before she made a “miraculous” recovery.<\/p>\n
Now, 18, Maddie does not remember the accident, but she hopes to use the experience to help children in the future.<\/p>\n
Maddie begins her health sciences studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in August and hopes to then attend medical school and become a pediatrician.<\/p>\n
\nShe told the new issue of PEOPLE magazine: “Hopefully I\u2019ll end up going to medical school and end up being a pediatrician. That\u2019s what I really want to do.”<\/p>\n
\nActress-and-singer Jamie Lynn, who has Maddie with her 37-year-old ex-partner, Casey Aldridge, believes their daughter will make a “great pediatrician”, adding: “My daughter’s a doctor! It’s really cool. She’s giving me something to brag about.”<\/p>\n
\nMaddie’s family are “beyond blessed” that she recovered.<\/p>\n
\nAnd she thinks her family’s faith “got a lot stronger” from the accident, adding: “Such a negative experience affected us positively.”<\/p>\n
\nIn August 2025, Maddie joked she is “very accident-prone” nine years after the near-fatal accident as she opened up about it for the first time.<\/p>\n
\nIn a YouTube video that explored her childhood injuries and illnesses, she said: “I did have an accident, though. I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I\u2019m very blessed.<\/p>\n
\n“So yeah, I’ve just been very accident-prone. I swear my parents are amazing, and they did not do anything to me!”<\/p>\n
\nThe then-teenager noted that early in her life, she was “in and out of hospital” undergoing “treatments all the time” for a range of health issues.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: “I was very sick when I was really little. I had bad asthma.”<\/p>\n
\nJamie Lynn and Watson got married in 2014, and they welcomed their daughter, Ivey, into the world four years later.<\/p>\n
