\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Robbie Hoffman<\/strong><\/a> is sharing how she chose her stage name.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old comedian talked with How God Works<\/a><\/em> podcast host Dave DeSteno<\/strong> how she chose \u201cRobby Hoffman<\/strong>,\u201d despite her real name being Rivka Sarah<\/strong>. <\/p>\n The Hacks<\/em> star explained that when she got into comedy, Rivka<\/strong> proved to be a \u201cvery difficult name\u201d for people to pronounce, such as other comedians when she was trying to do open mics. <\/p>\n Robby<\/strong> shared her process of looking \u201cfor a stage name\u201d and wanting \u201csomething familial,\u201d which is why she stuck to the \u201cR\u201d initial.<\/p>\n However, Robby<\/strong> said her mom was not happy with her decision.<\/p>\n \u201cRivka\u2019s such a beautiful name, what are you ashamed?\u201d she recalled her mother saying. \u201cI said, \u2018Ma, you think within three seconds of me being on stage, they\u2019re like, \u2018I wonder if she\u2019s Catholic?’\u201d Robby<\/strong> joked. \u201cWhether I want to or not\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n Robby<\/strong> was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised by a single mother in a Hasidic Jewish household with nine siblings. She often talks about her upbringing and has self-described as\u00a0\u201cvery Jewish and very gay,\u201d per an interview with Jewish Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n Name changes are a common practice in Hollywood.
