\nStranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer stayed in the world of sci-fi for their next Netflix show, but now it’s been reported the programme won’t be returning for a second run.<\/p>\n
\nAccording to Deadline, the streamer has decided not to continue with a second season of The Boroughs, which is executive produced by the siblings.<\/p>\n
\nIt’s said there had been talk about renewing the show, while a writers room had opened for a potential season two.<\/p>\n
\nSources also claimed that at one point, there was a suggestion of filming season two and three back-to-back.<\/p>\n
\nThe Boroughs, which was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, had positive reviews, but modest ratings against a sizeable budget thanks to special effects and an all-star cast featuring the likes of Alfred Molina, Geena Davis and Alfre Woodard.<\/p>\n
\nThe logline for the show read: “In a seemingly perfect retirement community, a grieving newcomer\u2019s monstrous encounter inspires him to join a misfit crew of unlikely heroes who uncover a dark secret that proves their \u2018golden years\u2019 are more dangerous, and they are more formidable, than anyone expect.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, the Duffers’ other Netflix show Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, which also launched this year, is seen as a limited series and won’t be returning.<\/p>\n
\nCurrently, the only project the brothers have on Netflix is animated spinoff Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.<\/p>\n
\nEarlier this week, Paramount confirmed the Duffers’ mysterious next project will be released on November 3, 2028.<\/p>\n
\nIt will mark their first since leaving Netflix after a decade to launch a new four-year exclusive deal with Paramount, which will span movie, TV and streaming projects.<\/p>\n
\nThe duo will write and direct what the studio is describing as an event film, while plot details are being kept closely under wraps.<\/p>\n
\nWhen the Paramount move was announced last summer, the Duffers said in a statement: “We couldn\u2019t be more thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. To be part of that mission is not just exciting \u2013 it\u2019s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.<\/p>\n
\n“And to do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don\u2019t take lightly.<\/p>\n
\n“We\u2019re also excited to reunite with our friends Cindy [Holland] and Matt [Thunell], who were among the very first to believe in us and an unusual little script we wrote that became Stranger Things.<\/p>\n
\n“They took a chance on us in 2015, and they\u2019re taking a chance again \u2013 we can\u2019t wait to create new stories together.\u201d<\/p>\n
