One of them is decorating.<\/p>\n<p>He undertook a project to paint the reflecting pool on the National Mall, shelling out $13 million in a sweetheart deal with the pool contractor.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s project has instantly backfired, resulting in a comically aggressive algae bloom that any expert might have predicted.<\/p>\n<p>But his diehard fans \u2014 yes, they still exist \u2014 are spinning another theory. Multiple presidents have worked to revitalize the iconic national symbol.<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/06\/donald-trump-backlash-spencer-pratt-la-mayoral-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> has shelled out $13 million to a pool contractor with whom he had previously worked. <\/p>\n<p>What would be a massive scandal under any other administration gets barely any attention under the Trump regime. Much larger and more blatantly corrupt financial transactions take place with this crowd constantly.<\/p>\n<p>Within days of the completion of the renovation, in which Trump resolved to paint the bottom of the pool a blue in roughly the same hue as that of the American Flag, the pool was no longer blue.<\/p>\n<p>It is green. A massive and predictable algae bloom has turned the reflecting pool project into Trump\u2019s latest expensive blunder. What gives?<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:haw3ukxfc5ppinj2rhd5gcoa\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3modl3wqcwk2t\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreidm2w3bsqaikl56mebhzlgiopy7iqetbk47rrmppaaiounfecag54\" data-bluesky-embed-color-mode=\"dark\">\n<p lang=\"en\">Took a 20 mile bike ride this morning to check out the Reflecting Pool<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:haw3ukxfc5ppinj2rhd5gcoa\/post\/3modl3wqcwk2t?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[image or embed]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jamie Dupree (<a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:haw3ukxfc5ppinj2rhd5gcoa?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@jamiedupree.bsky.social<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:haw3ukxfc5ppinj2rhd5gcoa\/post\/3modl3wqcwk2t?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June 15, 2026 at 11:11 AM<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>MAGA was, at its core, built upon conspiracy theories, some of which were rooted in simply misunderstanding existing systems.<\/p>\n<p>So it is no surprise that some of Trump\u2019s lingering supporters believe that this is not merely what happens when you have a massive pool of standing freshwater exposed to the sunlight and heated by a dark blue bottom, but a vindictive piece of sabotage by the \u201cdeep state\u201d or whatever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA week later it\u2019s green again, loaded with algae\u2026 Sabotage\u2026 Vandalism?\u201d a MAGA commentator named Grant Stinchfield tweeted. \u201cI believe it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cThe left can\u2019t stand Trump, American greatness, and his quest to make DC beautiful again. What a shame!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an accompanying video, Stinchfield added: \u201cIs it nefarious? I tend to think so. You wouldn\u2019t have so much algae that you see in here, you would not have that that quickly unless somebody did something. I\u2019m telling you.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-theme=\"dark\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President Trump fixes the reflecting pool and a week later it\u2019s green again, loaded with algae\u2026 Sabotage\u2026 Vandalism? What a shame! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ohvldLLgZL\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/ohvldLLgZL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Grant Stinchfield (@stinchfield1776) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/stinchfield1776\/status\/2065937790618022276?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">June 13, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-not-everyone-thinks-that-it-s-sabotage\">Not everyone thinks that it\u2019s sabotage<\/h2>\n<p>Some conservatives are bending over backwards to defend Trump\u2019s blunder (this specific one, there are just so many these days) without claiming that the Obamas planted antifa algae in the water.<\/p>\n<p>For example, notorious right-winger Emily Miller says that there\u2019s a piece of Trump-friendly tech that just hasn\u2019t come into play yet.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, Trump plans to implement a \u201cnano-bubbler,\u201d which she believes will purge the algae and keep it at bay.<\/p>\n<p>(We\u2019re not sure what technology she refers to. Nano-bubbles are tiny bubbles. A device that generates them might be used to oxygenate water, but given the factors involved, it\u2019s not clear if it would keep the reflecting pool algae-free if it even exists and is installed.)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Trump\u2019s actual response seems to be having people pour gallon after gallon of hydrogen peroxide into the reflecting pool. A large, stationary, unchlorinated freshwater pool heated by intense sunlight just a week before summer begins is going to fill with algae.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a reason that the bottom of the pool wasn\u2019t painted dark blue before this. There are reasons for so many things that normal politicians who understand how the world works would have at least had the curiosity to ask about.<\/p>\n<p>Is Trump a fundamentally incurious person? He seems to be constantly learning new things while in office, from how \u201cdumb\u201d is spelled to the optimal conditions for algae to grow.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, he\u2019s surrounded by ever-nodding <em>yes men<\/em> who would be afraid to question him even if they themselves had the wisdom of expertise to do so. It\u2019s a catastrophe.
