Her answers were very honest,\u201d the legal filing claims. \u201cBut the story that viewers heard was the deceptive story producers chose to tell.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DUtcetuCrJh\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>\u201cTyra Banks participated in the Netflix documentary series [on] America\u2019s Next Top Model (\u2018ANTM\u2019),\u201d the filing explained.<\/p>\n<p>The explanation continued: \u201cBecause she believed viewers deserved a candid conversation about the show\u2019s legacy \u2014 its successes and its shortcomings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyra\u2019s team added: \u201cThere are aspects of the show for which Ms. Banks takes accountability and she wanted ANTM viewers to hear that from her directly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pursuant to this goal, the filing says that she \u201cdid not limit the ANTM topics the interviewer could ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even so, the filing alleges that only 16 minutes of Tyra\u2019s lengthy interview made it into the final docuseries.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Reality Check: Inside America&#039;s Next Top Model | Official Trailer | Netflix\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/64eaReTHCgc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-we-allegedly-didn-t-see-part-of-her-responses-to-really-pivotal-topics\">We allegedly didn\u2019t see part of her responses to really pivotal topics<\/h2>\n<p>Tyra believes that the clips what the docuseries did include were \u201cstripped of context and reassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A big issue in the filing is that the doc was marketed as a documentary, with the filing arguing that \u201cthe genre matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cViewers of a documentary do not expect manufactured drama or constructed narratives,\u201d the filing notes. \u201cThey expect facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyra\u2019s team argues: \u201cBecause they were promised a documentary, that is exactly how viewers interacted with the Netflix Series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filing highlights specific moments from interviews \u2014 moments that Netflix\u2019s editors allegedly spliced out to rob other statements of context, and to make Tyra appear more villainous.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DU0eiplEbSR\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>Among the moments that Tyra alleges were robbed of vital context were the sexual assault of Shandi Sullivan and Miss J\u2019s stroke and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Her lawsuit isn\u2019t only about damages.<\/p>\n<p>Tyra is suing for \u201closs of future business opportunities, loss of business income, other compounding losses as will be shown at trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also wants compensation for being part of the series given the \u201csignificant mental anguish\u201d that she has experienced in the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>This sounds like a complex legal matter. We don\u2019t know which way a jury might rule. There\u2019s a non-zero chance that this ends with an out of court settlement of some kind.
