\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Jesse Eisenberg<\/strong><\/a> is not returning to reprise the role of Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong> for Aaron Sorkin<\/strong>\u2018s The Social Reckoning<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, a follow-up to The Social Network<\/em> and now we know why.<\/p>\n Many were surprised to see Succession<\/em> star Jeremy Strong<\/strong> taking over the role after Jesse<\/strong> received an Academy Award nomination for his work on the first film. Sorkin<\/strong> also won an Oscar for his screenplay.<\/p>\n This time around, Sorkin<\/strong> is back as write and director, but Jesse<\/strong> wasn\u2019t interested.<\/p>\n According to Sorkin<\/strong>, he spent three days trying to get the actor to return.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt like it belonged to him, and he was certainly battle-tested,\u201d he told Vanity Fair<\/a><\/em>. \u201cHe simply did not want to be conflated with Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong> anymore, that he has his problems with the guy. He doesn\u2019t like kids coming up to him in airports with business cards that say \u2018I\u2019m CEO, bitch\u2019 for him to sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n According to Vanity Fair<\/em>, they added that it was at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party that Sorkin<\/strong> first tried to get Jesse<\/strong> in to read the script. \u201cJust a few minutes later, at that same party, he ran into Jeremy Strong<\/strong>, who asked Sorkin<\/strong> what he had been up to, and Sorkin<\/strong> told him about the script. Strong<\/strong> indicated that if Eisenberg<\/strong> wasn\u2019t interested, he would be.\u201d<\/p>\n Jesse<\/strong> has talked about his distaste for being associated with Zuckerberg<\/strong> before, previously talking to BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today <\/em>about it<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not like I played a great golfer or something and now people think I\u2019m a great golfer,\u201d he said last year. \u201cIt\u2019s like this guy that\u2019s doing things that are problematic \u2014 taking away fact-checking and safety concerns, making people who are already threatened in this world more threatened.\u201d<\/p>\n The Social Reckoning will be out in theaters on October 9, 2026.
