David Beckham<\/a> has refused to talk about his family\u2019s estrangement from son Brooklyn in a new interview, calling it a \u201cprivate matter\u201d. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n

The 51-year-old former footballer spoke to Variety in an interview which coincided with him receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (12Jun26). <\/p>\n
In the chat, the interviewer asked dad-of-four David how he deals with the \u201cvicious\u201d media coverage about the \u201cstrife\u201d in his family, with the sportsman replying: \u201cTo be honest, I’m sorry to stop you there, but that’s a private matter. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s the one thing that I don’t want to talk about.”<\/p>\n
Brooklyn sent shockwaves around the world in January when he issued a strongly worded statement on Instagram denying he was being controlled by his wife Nicola Peltz and accusing his parents – David and wife Victoria – of briefing the press. <\/p>\n
\nBrooklyn said at the time in his lengthy statement: \u201cI have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cUnfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nBrooklyn continued: \u201cI do not want to reconcile with my family. I\u2019m not being controlled, I\u2019m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nBrooklyn was noticeably absent from the Walk of Fame ceremony, despite his siblings – brothers Romeo, Cruz and sister Harper – attending alongside mum Victoria to support David on his big day. <\/p>\n
\nIn his speech accepting the honour, David became visibly overwhelmed as he thanked his nearest and dearest, saying: \u201cMy parents and my sisters, who always supported my dreams. Victoria, my amazing wife for almost 30 years. Without whom, none of this would be possible or as enjoyable. And my beautiful children, who are the reason that I get out of the bed in the morning.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cKids \u2014 I’m going to get emotional now \u2014 I hope you bring my grandchildren here one day and tell them about a boy who dreamed big. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cTo make you all proud is my greatest achievement. I’m so grateful for you all, thank you, and thank you so much for this honour, L.A., it means so much.”<\/p>\n
\nElsewhere in the Variety interview, David did open up about his marriage to Victoria, as he revealed how they have managed to weather the storms their relationship has faced over the years. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cWe’ve been married for 27 years this July. We’ve been together for 29 years. We’ve got four incredible kids.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe’ve got businesses that we work hard on. But we always make time for each other, and we always have.”<\/p>\n
