(Collin County)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nDuring an appearance on Sarah Fields\u2019 \u201cJinxedSip\u201d podcast, Metcalf unleashed a tirade of anger, much of it laden with truly shocking bigotry.<\/p>\n
Metcalf began by calling out Karmelo\u2019s father, saying, \u201cAndrew Anthony, you\u2019re a p\u2013sy and a coward, and you raised one.\u201d<\/p>\n
He then turned his attention to Karmelo\u2019s mother, saying:<\/p>\n
\u201cKala, you drunk b\u2013ch. What did you do to that boy to make him stab somebody? My God, what kind of mother are you?<\/p>\n
Austin then turns his attention to someone named Kevin Hayes, who allegedly wanted to fight him.<\/p>\n
He refers to Hayes as \u201cthe only one in your family without a record,\u201d then says, \u201cI guess that\u2019s something to brag about in your culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s at that point that the rant becomes even more explicitly racist:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou people hang your hat on the dumbest shit I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d Metcalf seethes.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me make something racist up so y\u2019all can go viral. I got a new name for \u2018Melo \u2026 How about \u2018Watermelon Felon?\u2019 How\u2019s that one strike you?\u201d<\/p>\n
Metcalf then taunts Kala and Andrew about Karmelo\u2019s future:<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope he enjoyed his first night in that cell last night. Because he\u2019s gonna have many nights to think about what the f\u2013k he did.<\/p>\n
Metcalf then makes a rather dubious claim, saying:<\/p>\nThe mug shot of accused murderer Karmelo Anthony. (Collin County)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cI forgave him so that I don\u2019t carry the hate and the anger. So that I don\u2019t get ate up. Like cancer, it kills you from the inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo when people ask me, \u2018How can you forgive him?\u2019 If I didn\u2019t, I would\u2019ve wound up killing him and going to prison myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
When discussing the Anthony case, it\u2019s important to bear in mind that we\u2019re talking about two sets of parents consumed by grief over two promising young lives cut short.<\/p>\n
Austin Metcalf is dead at the age of 17. Karmelo Anthony will be nearly 40 before he\u2019s even eligible for parole.<\/p>\n
All of this over a momentary altercation at a high school track meet.<\/p>\n
The situation is almost unfathomably tragic, and despite his claims to the contrary, we have no doubt that Jeff Metcalf is consumed with outrage over the senseless circumstances of his son\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
But none of that gives him the excuse to make the situation even more horrific and dangerous by encouraging racial hatred toward the Anthony family.<\/p>\n
The reaction to Metcalf\u2019s comments has been predictably negative, but sadly, he\u2019s already found quite a few supporters in the darker corners of social media.<\/p>\n
In other words, he has succeeded in making a horrific situation even worse.<\/p>\n
