Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> channeled Kevin Costner<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> character, John Dutton, to offer some words of wisdom.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018It\u2019s the one constant in life, son: you build something worth having, somebody\u2019s gonna try to take it,\u2019\u201d Swift, 36, said putting on a southern accent to deliver the Yellowstone<\/em> quote during her Songwriters Hall of Fame induction speech on Thursday, June 11.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her message was for up-and-coming songwriters who might find themselves in her shoes one day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m using this quote to refer to self-worth, peace of mind and singular vision as a creator,\u201d Swift explained. \u201cPositive feedback and people loving what you wrote feels incredible \u2026 but you need to be ready to receive negative feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIf you make anything awesome, someone out there is bound to say horrible things about it. Or twist what you meant into something completely unrecognizable to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift told the younger generation that they \u201ccan be sensitive but also durable\u201d during their respective careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake what\u2019s useful and constructive and leave out what\u2019s damaging to your creativity,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Swift got emotional during her 21-minute-long speech at Thursday\u2019s event, which took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. She thanked her parents, Scott<\/strong> and Andrea Swift<\/strong>, along with her brother, Austin Swift<\/strong>, for their part in championing her music career.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it couldn\u2019t have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
