The Pitt<\/em> stars haven\u2019t been that surprised by cast exits after there were jokes made on set about people being written off.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was something that was just always spoken about when we were filming, just that there\u2019s characters that are gonna come and go,\u201d Supriya Ganesh<\/strong> told Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> on Thursday, June 11.<\/p>\n

Ganesh recalled executive producer and star Noah Wyle<\/strong> mentioning it.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNoah would joke around and laugh and go like, \u2018Who am I gonna get rid of this season\u2019 as a joke, so it just was very much something that was just part of how they structured the show,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI think the idea of living in a day is super helpful because eventually the character doesn\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen to her or the show really also at times doesn\u2019t really know what\u2019s gonna happen to her at any point. I think it\u2019s just, like, you have to live within the context of a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Pitt cast has not shied away from reacting to losing some of their own as multiple actors leave the show. HBO Max\u2019s hit series, which premiered in January 2025, follows a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital\u2019s ER working a single 15-hour shift. The series is led by Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ganesh made her mark on HBO Max\u2019s The Pitt<\/em> when she was introduced in the role<\/a> of Samira Mohan. Ganesh appeared in two seasons before news broke in March that she would be written out of the show after season 2. The decision received backlash from fans who were still upset about Tracy Ifeachor\u2019<\/strong>s exit after season 1. Both departures were referred to as a creative choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible,\u201d Gemmill explained to Us Weekly<\/em> at the time. \u201cSo we\u2019re going to turn over our cast. But I think it\u2019s a great launching pad for people, and that\u2019s the best we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate interview, Gemmill addressed the criticism surrounding multiple women of color leaving The Pitt.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt eliminates the false jeopardy some shows have,\u201d he told Vulture. \u201c[Mohan] is somebody who doesn\u2019t have a job lined up and might not know where she\u2019s going next, and we\u2019re trying to build up the uncertainty that these young physicians face.\u201d<\/p>\n

The interviewer pointed out to Gemmill that the show\u2019s<\/a> two major departures have both been women of color. In response, Gemmill called it \u201cjust a by-product of having a diverse cast,\u201d adding, \u201cWe have a lot of women, and a lot of women of color. It\u2019s just a coincidence more than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wyle, 54, also defended the casting shakeup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmergency rooms have a high revolving door,\u201d Wyle told Variety at PaleyFest\u2019s screening of The Pitt earlier this month. \u201cAs always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the story lines fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n
