\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Author Carley Fortune<\/strong> isn\u2019t mad about that big change made from her book Every Summer After<\/em> for the adapted show Every Year After<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n Spoilers ahead for Every Year After<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n In the series, Sadie Soverall<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s character Percy returns to Barry\u2019s Bay when she learns that her ex Sam\u2019s (Matt Cornett) mother died. Viewers and readers then learn that Percy was once intimate with Sam\u2019s brother Charlie (Michael Bradway). <\/p>\n In the book, however, Sam figures this out before Percy actually returns to their town.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, I can tell you from [showrunner]\u00a0Amy [B. Harris]<\/strong>\u2018 point of view why the change was made and why it\u2019s something that I didn\u2019t push back against it when I read it,\u201d Carley<\/strong> told told Us Weekly<\/a><\/em> on Wednesday (June 10) when the series premiered on Prime Video.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I was writing the book, I knew from the beginning the reason why Percy and Sam had kind of fallen apart, but it wasn\u2019t until I got to writing the scene in which Sam and Percy are confronting that, that I realized Sam is known for such a long time,\u201d she shared. \u201cThat just felt so heartbreaking and beautiful and sad that all these years had gone by. So he\u2019s had a lot of time to grapple with this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n But in the show, Sam only learns about Percy and Charlie in the present, so viewers get to see exactly how he handles it while simultaneously dealing with grief over his mother.<\/p>\n Carley<\/strong> continued, \u201cI think what was important to Amy<\/strong> was showing Sam\u2019s response to that news. You want to see things on TV. You want to see him be confronted with this. For a second season, we are going to be with Sam while he\u2019s still grappling with this information. I think that that just makes for good on-screen drama.
