Olivia Rodrigo feels normal in the UK<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old pop star is one of the world’s best-selling musicians – but Olivia feels able to live a normal life whenever she’s in the UK and especially in London.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the BBC about her love of the UK, Olivia explained: “I feel so normal here, very adult. I can walk to the pub and meet friends. It’s a city where spontaneity is really encouraged. <\/p>\n
“People are very social here, in a way that they’re not in Southern California.”<\/p>\n
Olivia – who was born and raised in California – has even learned how to cope with the rain in Britain.<\/p>\n
\nShe joked: “It wouldn’t be a proper English summer without it.”<\/p>\n
\nOlivia has been outspoken about various social and political issues in the US over the years. However, she’s now decided to pick her battles more carefully.<\/p>\n
\nThe chart-topping star said: “I definitely try to be careful with my words, but simultaneously, the women I looked up to when I was young were really outspoken, and that was one of the reasons I adored them.<\/p>\n
\n“I don’t think my goal is to be liked by all. And when you de-centre that as the primary motivation, I think everything becomes a lot more joyful.”<\/p>\n
\nEarlier this month, Olivia explained that she feels like she’s the “best version” of herself in London.<\/p>\n
\nThe pop star wrote a huge chunk of her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, in London, and Olivia admitted to feeling inspired by the city.<\/p>\n
\nThe brunette beauty – who previously dated London-born actor Louis Partridge – told Dazed: “I\u2019m the best version of myself when I\u2019m there. I wrote lots of the album in London; lots [of it] was inspired by my time there. Maybe it\u2019s because it rains so much that all you want to do is be inside with the guitar and write.”<\/p>\n
\nOlivia also admitted to feeling inspired by Manchester, the home of bands such as Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division, and The Stone Roses.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer said: “I spent some time in Manchester a few years ago and it was so rainy I was like, \u2018No wonder so many great bands come out of Manchester!\u2019”<\/p>\n
