It\u2019s been more than 30 years since Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> was struck by a drunk driver, but he still vividly remembers the harrowing incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, when I was 18, I left a bar and I\u2019d had a beer, you know, and I walked back and I looked at my car for a second, I thought, \u2018You know what? I\u2019m not gonna drive anywhere,\u2019\u201d Reynolds, now 49, told Rob Mac<\/strong> during a video interview for GQ<\/em><\/a> published on Wednesday, June 10.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Even if it\u2019s four blocks home, absolutely not.\u2019 And so instead, I turned around, started to cross the street, and I was run over by a drunk driver,\u201d the Deadpool actor recalled of the accident, which took place in his native Vancouver. \u201cI got run over by a drunk driver after making a firmly positive and wise decision for a young 18-year-old male.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reynolds recalled spending \u201cfour weeks in the hospital\u201d because the collision \u201cbroke every bone in [his] left side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRyan Reynolds recently recognized that his kids have yet to see him truly fail. \u201cMy kids, all they see is a winner,\u201d he told The Wall Street Journal at the CMO Council Summit on November 18. \u201cAnd that\u2019s the thing I worry about most with this [Hollywood] ecosystem you\u2019re talking about here is, like, when [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe hit me so hard, his car was not operational,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Reynolds then joked, \u201cI\u2019d like to thank Dr. Meek at the General Hospital for putting me back together so kindly. Socialized medicine, he couldn\u2019t say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking advantage of the discussion topic, the interviewer asked Reynolds, \u201cWhat is the best lesson you\u2019ve learned from something that didn\u2019t go how you planned?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Free Guy star responded, \u201cNothing ever goes how you plan, I think, right? It\u2019s the old Chinese proverb, who knows what\u2019s good or bad?\u201d<\/p>\n

Reynolds previously spoke about the accident and its aftermath<\/a> in a 2011 interview with CTV News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI woke up three days later,\u201d Reynolds recalled, adding that his late dad, James Reynolds<\/strong>, was sitting in his hospital room with a \u201cvomit tray.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I had been heaving in my unconscious,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd nothing says love like painting someone with three-day-old Gin Rummies. Just soaked the man head to toe in my vomit.\u201d<\/p>\n
