Bluesky, a decentralized Twitter-like social network<\/a>, is pausing new signups \u201ctemporarily\u201d to try and resolve performance issues it\u2019s been experiencing after Twitter introduced limits on the amount of tweets you can see in a day. Even though you still need an invite code to be able to join Bluesky, it seems that the influx of new users has been a problem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe will temporarily be pausing Bluesky sign-ups while our team continues to resolve the existing performance issues,\u201d Bluesky wrote in a post<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019ll keep you updated when invite codes will resume functionality. We\u2019re excited to welcome more users to our beta soon!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Bluesky\u2019s status page<\/a> currently says the platform is experiencing \u201cdegraded performance,\u201d with the first notice of issues at 1:47PM ET. \u201cDegraded performance\u201d feels like an accurate description \u2014 on the web, I can still usually get posts to load, though they often take a very long time. Things seem a bit smoother for me on the iOS app.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n At 2:03PM ET, Bluesky said in a post that it it\u2019s dealing with \u201crecord-high traffic.\u201d It\u2019s also pushing out mobile app updates to try and fix things, according to Bluesky engineer Paul Frazee.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The issues with Twitter first cropped up on Friday when the platform started blocking unregistered users<\/a>, which owner Elon Musk claimed was a \u201ctemporary emergency measure\u201d<\/a> because it was getting \u201cdata pillaged so much\u201d that it was affecting things for regular users. On Saturday, Musk announced new limits<\/a> for how many tweets users can see in a day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Mastodon is apparently also seeing a big spike in users. According to one tracker<\/a>, the platform has seen more than 26,000 new accounts in the last day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
