Miley Cyrus<\/a> in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, said he suffered a near-fatal illness in 2024 that left him unable to sing or speak. <\/p>\nThe revelation comes during a period of renewed public interest in the Cyrus family, whose relationships have frequently made headlines in recent years, while Billy Ray has also attracted attention for his relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley.<\/p>\n
Billy Ray said: \u201cI got really sick and almost died.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cAs I was trying to stay alive at times, they sent me home from the hospital, and I\u2019d be there with Tommy Jack. But my body was blowing up (with) a toxicity of some type.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRecalling the seriousness of the condition, Billy Ray said: \u201cIf it had erupted, I would have died. In the last moment, I had a prayer answered.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer described repeatedly visiting what he called a \u201cprayer rock\u201d during the ordeal.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cPlease. I need a miracle. I need a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAccording to Billy Ray, doctors later delivered unexpected news before a planned operation.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cLo and behold, they were going to do one last surgery. I got to the hospital (and) they said, \u2018Mr. Cyrus, it\u2019s gone. It\u2019s healed.\u2019 I had a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBilly Ray explained the illness led to vocal paralysis, temporarily robbing him of the ability to perform.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI started believing once I had the first miracle. I said, \u2018Cyrus, you can\u2019t talk or sing right now, but believe you can\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDuring his recovery, Billy Ray said he found comfort in Noah\u2019s song Don\u2019t Put It All On Me, released in 2025 and written by his son Braison Cyrus.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI just loved it so much. And I do credit that particular song (for) saving me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer added he became \u201caddicted\u201d to the track and listened to it repeatedly throughout the day as he recovered.<\/p>\n
\nBilly Ray also credited Braison\u2019s son Bear with providing unexpected encouragement at a particularly difficult moment.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cIn this very broken moment of my life, my little grandson Bear looked at me and said, \u2018Try again\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBilly Ray continued: \u201cAnd up until that moment, he had never spoken to me at all. I wasn\u2019t even sure if he knew my name.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nReflecting on the encounter, he said: \u201cI thought, \u2018He\u2019s telling you something\u2019. Is it about love? Music? Somehow, I got to try again at both. So I\u2019m learning to try again.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBilly Ray shares Noah, Braison and Grammy-winning singer Miley with his former wife Tish Cyrus. <\/p>\n
\nThe couple were married from 1993 until 2022. <\/p>\n
\nFollowing their separation, Billy Ray married Australian singer Firerose in 2023, before the marriage ended in 2024.<\/p>\n
\nTish later married Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023, while Billy Ray began dating Elizabeth last year.<\/p>\n
\nThe Hill, Billy Ray\u2019s latest album, is scheduled for release on 16 June.<\/p>\n
