Hugh Laurie<\/strong><\/a> issued an apology to a British journalist after responding to her criticism of his famed series House<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan,\u201d Laurie, 66, shared in an X post<\/a> on Monday, June 8. \u201cI was very slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cIf it\u2019s any comfort, I got it in the neck too. I\u2019m a thin-skinned t***, apparently, even though it wasn\u2019t my skin. I was sticking up for the writers who I adored.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laurie admitted that he made a mistake by naming several historical figures in his initial social media posts.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously I shouldn\u2019t have cited Bach\/Kahlo\/Moore \u2014 asking for trouble \u2014 and would have done better to go for the 10,000 blues songs written around the same 12 bar chord structure,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI\u2019ve listened to most of them and will keep doing so. Because we love what we love.\u201d<\/p>\n

The social media drama began on Saturday, June 6, when journalist Janet Murray<\/strong> told followers that she had started House<\/em>, which initially ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cSame narrative every episode: Patient has mysterious illness. Hugh Laurie (House) gets diagnosis wrong. Patient nearly dies,\u201d her critique read. \u201cHugh Laurie gets diagnosis wrong again. Gets threatened with being fired. Patient nearly dies again.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concluded, \u201cHugh Laurie has last minute leftfield idea. Gets diagnosis right. Doesn\u2019t get fired. Eight seasons of this?\u201d<\/p>\n

Laurie responded on Sunday, June 7, thanking Murray for her \u201ccritique\u201d of the show with a rather snarky retort.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right [the] first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC weren\u2019t happy,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThen we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn\u2019t happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cOne could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??\u201d<\/p>\n

Laurie explained that the show was \u201cvariations on a theme\u201d when concluding his message.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn\u2019t meant for you,\u201d he said. \u201cNonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray later tagged Laurie in a social media post sharing a recently published article titled, \u201cWhat I Learnt From My Online Fight With Hugh Laurie,\u201d which prompted his apology.<\/p>\n

Murray joked that \u201cit\u2019s all been rather fun\u201d to go back and forth with the actor and his fans, but she also hoped that he would read her article.<\/p>\n
