This year, I chose <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/loyalty-programs\/american-airlines-aadvantage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Airlines<\/a><\/span> and used it on checked bag fees and an <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/airline\/ultimate-guide-american-airlines-admirals-club-access\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Admirals Club day pass<\/a><\/span> during a four-hour layover at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in Terminal 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My verdict<\/strong>: I find both of these statement credits easy to use, but the Sapphire Reserve&#8217;s flexible travel credit <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/credit-cards\/travel-credits-easiest-to-redeem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">certainly wins out<\/a><\/span>. You&#8217;re limited to using one half from January to June, then the other from July to December.<\/p>\n<p>You can use your credit for a one-night stay through <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/loyalty-programs\/ultimate-guide-amex-fine-hotels-and-resorts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts<\/a><\/span>, but you have to book at least two nights if you book through <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/credit-cards\/hotel-collection-amex-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hotel Collection<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <span data-article-product-link=\"\" class=\"jsx-eb69f9b09a3de1d0 jsx-eea0d1f218f5e80b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/oc\/221211836?name=Chase Sapphire Reserve PID&amp;pid=221211836?tid=post\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"jsx-eb69f9b09a3de1d0 jsx-eea0d1f218f5e80b applyLink inherit\">Sapphire Reserve<\/a><\/span> splits its $500 <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/new-and-enhanced-hotel-credits-for-sapphire-reserve-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual hotel credit<\/a><\/span> in half \u2014 but you can use your two $250 credits at any time; they just can&#8217;t be combined. You have to book at least two nights through <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/hotel\/the-edit-by-chase-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Edit<\/a><\/span>. You can use it on eligible purchases made directly with popular services, including Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+ and Peacock.<\/p>\n<p>I use this statement credit on YouTube TV and get $25 back every month. This is one of the easiest credits to use, especially if you already subscribe to an eligible service.<\/p>\n<p>The Amex Platinum also provides up to $75 in quarterly statement credits for U.S. <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/credit-cards\/top-items-to-buy-amex-platinum-lululemon-credit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lululemon<\/a><\/span> purchases (online and in-store, excluding outlets; enrollment required), which is obviously useful if you already shop there. Generally, it&#8217;s not hard for me to remember to use this credit each quarter for new workout gear or gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Amex Platinum cardmembers receive up to $155 in annual statement credits for a recurring <span><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/credit-cards\/walmart-plus-amex-platinum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Walmart+ membership<\/a><\/span> (enrollment required). If you shop at Walmart regularly, this benefit can be valuable.
