Idris Elba is conscious of his legacy<\/p>\n
The 53-year-old actor has enjoyed huge success in Hollywood, starring in movies such as Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and American Gangster – but Idris has admitted to being concerned about his long-term legacy.<\/p>\n
The London-born star told GQ magazine: “There\u2019s a changing of the guards in the world.<\/p>\n
“Generationally, my age \u2013 we\u2019re on the way out. And that new generation that\u2019s being born today, what is it that\u2019s there for them? What do you want to leave for that? That\u2019s what I\u2019m living for. Because when we\u2019re in that room, and someone\u2019s dressing our body, all that\u2019s left of you is the legacy of what you\u2019ve done. That\u2019s important to me.”<\/p>\n
Despite this, Idris doesn’t see himself as a role model.<\/p>\n
\nThe actor shared: “I struggle with it, a little bit. The responsibility, accepting it, like, Yes! I\u2019m an upstanding hero! I\u2019m a role model! I\u2019m not. I\u2019m imperfect, massively.<\/p>\n
\n“That line, that cusp, is hard to maintain: you\u2019re either a hero, or you\u2019re not \u2013 which is it? And I sort of sit in the middle. I didn\u2019t ever chase being a knight. Or chase being a sort of public hero \u2013 that\u2019s not what I\u2019m chasing.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Idris previously revealed that he’s determined to “make a difference for young people”.<\/p>\n
\nThe actor was awarded a knighthood “for services to young people”, following his campaign against knife crime in the UK, and Idris was thrilled that his efforts had been recognised.<\/p>\n
\nHe told Extra: “I\u2019ve worked, you know, trying to raise as much awareness about what young people are going through, especially in the UK and other parts of the world. <\/p>\n
\n“It\u2019s a real honour to be recognised for that. Not for my acting work, but, you know, for trying to make a difference for young people.”<\/p>\n
\nIdris has already achieved a lot in his career, but he still has ambitions that he wants to fulfil.<\/p>\n
\nAsked if he’s thinking about retirement, Idris replied: “You naturally retire \u2026 There are things that I\u2019ve done I don\u2019t need to do again and the things I\u2019d like to progress towards; directing is one of them.”<\/p>\n
